• Just to reiterate what others have said, Cavs are VERY susceptible to health problems through inbreeding. I loved mine to bits, we had him from a pup from a reputable breeder (his mum won at Crufts) BUT... even so he had a plethora of health problems, less than ideal temperament and it pains me to say it but I wouldn't ever have another Cav. His heart was always in bad shape, and he had terrible digestive problems and allergies. Was pretty miraculous that we kept him going for 15 years! (think was because he had lots of exercise). He was himself, and I loved him to bits, but having had cross breeds I would DEFINITELY have the latter again rather than another Cav.

Anyway, just wanted to add my 2p worth if anyone is thinking of getting a Cav, but whatever I hope it works out :)
• Ok poll on names added to the DT/Arms area lol

I can't think of ANYTHINGGGGGG lol *tantrum*

You might find that for a small donation ( i think I gave them £2 for Percys) you can take the collar she has - that will do you for a little while....

I used to tkae my spaniel on the bus - when I was working away, mumand dad had to take her to the vets - and neither of them drove - she was fine. As long as you dont make a big deal out of things, she wont either....

Why didn't the rescue do a vet check themselves to see if she was spayed? Most rescues get the dog checked to make sure its healthy before rehoming, my dogs came vaccinated, wormed, neutured, dental and with collar, tag collar, muzzle and £15kg bag of food and i only paid £100 fee. I'd of thought most rescues would want to guarentee the dog was done before leaving to be certain it wouldn't be bred from. I know with puppies that they'd be too young so give a voucher.

I'm sure you will be a great home TigerLilly, but i find it bizarre that a rescue doesn't bother to homecheck. A local greyhound-rehoming group home visits with the dog and checks will get on with cat as kennel cat test isn't always accurate.
Where do you stand if it turns the dog doesn't get on with the cat, will they refund your donation? I only ask as my friend took 2 dogs on and due to rescue's poor advice the dogs didn't get on and then they wouldn't refund fee when they had to return 1 soon after, had they kept dog a while then i think fair to keep fee.

Anyway i wasn't meaning to be neagtive, was just suprised. I'm sure everything will work out well with doggy, it certainly will be spoilt! If you have a google you can probably find some staffy/dog forums to save you spending lots on books (though i would buy dog health/vet book) or see what library has to offer. I use this forum http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?act=home which is aimed at greyhound owners but will have lots of info on cat introduction/training. If you go into training or other board, there is a box at the bottom so you can search by a keyword.

If you do go with a baby gate (check freecycle/freeads for cheap one) then you can raise it off the ground a bit so that the cat can zip underneath but staffy can't.

Hope it all goes well, i'm looking forward to seeing the little lady!

I think they won't say no she's not neutered because they can't see or feel a scar (Yes, she's seen a Vet) & I imagine maybe they can't say yes or no unless they are 100% sure. I spoke to a Vet too who said even a scar doesn't mean she's been neutered, could be surgery, c-section, so maybe they don't want to tell me if they're not 100%.

Other rescues (Blue Cross/Battersea etc) don't *always* home check, I know this one do mostly cause they've been booking them while i've been there. All I can think is because they don't need to check it has room or I know what's what, we've done all the talking etc there & I told them I have a small place. Can't see there's anything they could check lol.

I saw her again today & had another walk & took her in an enclosed area/paddock type thing with agility things & she runs through the tube & over the huge a frame. She'l sit & give her paw & doesn't bark. We met a few people like the guy who works with the cats who she's never met & she's fine.

Took her right up to the cats & a kitten came charging up hissing & his/her Mum swatted it lol they all came right up & the dog didn't do anything, she seems happy with whatever is thrown at her! The cat'd come off better anyway but I can't see it coming to that, neither seem to want to fight, both animals are only the type to attack in self defence.

She saw other dogs & is fine unless they try to attack her. Decided on the name Chaya after all that lol it's one one of my cats was called. And definitely not common! When I saw her again she didn't suit Meg, she looks younger than I thought! She's about 12kg I think they said & could do with putting on a small amount, the one girl said she could even be as much as 3/4 Staffie, they have a few full Staffs in & she's not a full one.

They said she could also have JR or anything, can't tell. The Vet is seeing her again on Tuesday to look at a tooth, they've seen something that they're not sure if the Vet's seen so are double checking. I'm more confident now about her & the cats, she didn't even raise a paw at them lol my old Staff would've screamed them place down & had her paw raised. Obviously she won't be left unsupervised for a while. Ohh & just my luck, the council have decided to paint up here the week I get her

Yanno they only had 3yrs before to do it lmao

She'll be going to Hydrotherapy from January assuming she's ok temperament wise etc, once she's had chance to form a bond. The kennels have used it & say it's great & my Cousin has taken her dog, so if she goes & likes it yay. I gotn her a collar & lead today from P@H the Medium size seems fine, they said her neck is about 18 inches I think.

Going back on Tuesday to see her but she's reserved for me now :j

Forgot to say, the girl at P@H gave me two 100g sample bags of a P@H own brand dried dog food to try, dunno if I can post ingredients here as it's not showing on their website but apparently it's good, it's called Wainwright's

Anyone familiar with this? She said it's a really good one x

Don't mean to be pessimistic but... she's paid to say it's good :)
I would only recommend 3 but that isn't to say that others aren't good too: Burns, Arden Grange & James Welbeloved.
I find ordering them online works out cheaper and places like VetsUk give free delivery if you spend over £39 on food (48 hour courier delivery) - which if you buy a 15 kg bag of dog food and then some cat food should cover it :) It lasts a long time because it's a high quality and you need to feed less of it in return :)

Tigerlilly....im so happy for you!!!! I hope things work out for you with your new dog. She sounds great for you! xxxxx
• Thanks, I do too, i'm soooooooooooooo nervous & will probably be posting every minute lol when I got the Rats everytime I looked at them where they were sleeping they had their eyes open & I was worried they weren't sleeping

Cat has a blanket that smells of the dog & has had a good sniff & the dog has a cushion that was in the cats old carrier & should smell of her. I'll look on that pet food site, can't get cat food there (Unless they do natures:menu cause the cat has that & the new P@H own make which is GREAT!)

Thinking if the dog food is as good as the cats P@H it'll be awesome. The girl said avoid Pedigree/Bakers etc & get JWB, their Wainwright's or can't remember the other. It has a high meat content tho & is sposed to be the same as JWB.

Cat sniffed the dog blanket for agessssssssss lol I was thinking ewww. Right now the dog farts abit! I bet it's what they feed her, I don't think they give anything in particular, they said mixer but idk if with anything else. I know they give a Kong with Chappie in @ night.

She'll probably either get Burns, this Wainwright's, Arden or JWB. I want her to have mostly dry, the cat can't but the dog has no excuse! Gonna give her a Dentastix each day unless any of you know a better one? Cat is sat on the blanket staring at me! lol i'm waiting for her to pee lmaooooo

Nope, she's curled up for a kip on it  can the dog have meat (Say 1/2 pouch a day) & dried or is just dry best? I reckon she won't eat the first day she seems a nervous type too. Am excited that she was going over the agility a frame tho, it was about 6ft at the highest & she's quite happy to go over it & thru the tunnel.

It was heartbreaking walking around though & wondering why the heck people have parted with the animals, costs £24,000 a week to run the place & they said sometimes people just can't be bothered to pay the kenneling costs to get their dog out! If my cat ended up there i'd be sooooooooo greatful she was safe i'd pay a fortune!

It's not just the % of meat (although it matters!) but the quality of it :) Which is why if I can't find ingredients lists online to research I always feel a bit cautious :)
This forexample is what Kira is on... http://www.ardengrange.com/Pet-Food/dog-food.asp?id=24#Ingredients

I like getting a breakdown of what she eats cos I'm a control freak ;) hehehe
