I think (but I may be wrong) that is just has to have a way of identifying/contacting the owner of the dog. Hang on, I will just get Badger over here and have a look what Ive got on hers, as I was advised on what should be on it from the rescue..
ok, well she has two - her main one says "Telephone - 00xx xxxx xxx" (my mobile number) on one side (i dont have a land line) and "I am chipped" on the other. The second one (which was just my own idea) has my dads home number on it, just incase I was away, ill or whatever! That way someone should be able to get one of us!
I think yours sounds fine and if you want you can always add more info on another tag at a later date, or as you suggest, write inside her collar.0 -

I think the rescue give a tag that has to be worn too with their info, read it somewhere lmao how sad am I that i'm hoping her neck fits the collar I like! The smaller size looks like a cat collar lol. Thankyou Badger for modelling! lol
Yeah KC website have the number & postcode as ok but says owners name too, why they need my name I dunno lolif I nicked her I could do my own ID Tag with my own info! Not puttin my name on! God i'll have a billion questions now. I spoke to some training class leaders today & one made me laugh saying the RSPCA aren't always right, when I said about them saying no! lol
Decided to take her to the Vet 10 days after she comes home to have a check up & to see if they can tell if she's spayed or not. I did notice her nipples look normal, sometimes in dogs that have been bred they're all huge, so I dunno? lol
I called the rescue today & asked them to give her something to sleep on that I can bring home on Friday as a prezzie for the cat to smell! And i'll take something over that smells of the cat. Put a note thru next door explaining i'm getting a dog & to let me know if it barks alot while i'm out & i'll deal with it if so etc. Think i'm gonna register her @ Vets4Pets, they might be abit further away but they will claim direct off most insurers if the bill is over about £400-£500.
I'm feeling more positive tonight, if she turns out to be a barker I guess there's lots I can try to stop her! The council website have contact numbers for advice also, and in the village from January there's a training class for £2 per session with a registered trainer, he does not for profit but is planning to do some other stuff on another night in addition which will be like dancing to music & all fun stuff & will cost normal prices, he said give him a ring when she's settled in & I know how she is, cause he likes to know any behaviour issues etc before taking them on
Also, there's a dog Hydrotherapy pool I could get to on a bus, i'm seriously tempted to take her once a week or fortnight (If she likes it!) just for fun for her. I'm abit wary about buses tho, what if she pees! lol i'll have to blame the person in front of me loudly while moving away in disgust!0 -

Pleased that you've got the go ahead. Sure you'll do a great job and have plenty of good times together.
I really hope so i'm so worried she just won't settle with the cat, the cat will leave home or she'll bark so much she has to go back :!! I know it's probably needless worries cause i've waited so many years & really want it so much, but still lol I know barking (If she even does) can be worked on & the one trainer I spoke to said for all I know she might've spent her whole life locked in a house 24/7 & not bark at all.
The cat i'm sure will be ok, just put out & !!!!!! off for a while lol i'm hopeful they'll settle together but I won't leave them together unsupervised until i'm 200% sure they won't cause problems to each other.0 -

I have always been the same whenever we've got new pets. I'm sure the cat will be happy enough as long as they get the same attention they've always got from you. You're building up quite a little family now with them all.
lol yeah, I always say sod a guy & kids, my pets are my family! This is my last pet! I already decided once the rats die I won't get more, but hopefully that's many years off yet, mind you 3yrs flies by when ya get to my age lmao0 -
I can tell you what you definitely will need - in the long run anyway (you may already have these but I didnt need these items till I had a dog!) -a waterproof jacket, a hat and scarf, and some waterproof walking shoes!
I found the waterproof walking shoes were more important to me than a waterproof coat, as unless its tipping it down your body rarely gets that wet.
I tend to go out wearing a knitted wooly hat, two hoodies, a big scarf and with me jeans tucked in my socks! I am a vision of glamour and elegance as you probably can imagine!!:rotfl:
I found that when walking in wet grass I had soggy feet all the time, so I now buy relatively cheap hi-tec waterproof hiking shoes and find them really good for the job! They are also often available for less than £30.0 -
lol o joy, be like when I worked at the stables I was bl00dy cold all the time. Gotta get the dog a coat & maybe a jumper! She had both on when I visited & was shivering still lol. On 13th when i'm out all day it looks like i'll have someone coming in 3x to give her a 45 minute walk & evict the cat or let her in lol. She's done work with the RSPCA, home checks & things, so she'll probably be disgusted i'm allowed a dog! But ah well she'll be paid! lol
Looked at groomers & asked about her nails also, i'm used to clipping the cats but the dogs look very dark, don't think i'll see the quick so i'm gonna have someone show me how to clip them. They looked long to me, i'm hoping all her walks will wear them down! I'm wondering if a 2hr walk will be too much? The rescue said she's only about 6 & healthy so she should walk well!
Be such an experience for me getting out of bed at 8am! Should she eat after she's walked?0 -
I would say walk her for about 40 mins at first and see if she seems tired - she may be a bit unfit as she has been in kennels for several weeks. If you are taking her in for a vet checkup you could ask him to look at her claws and clip them if necessary whilst you are there. She may well wear them down quickly from walking on pavements if they arent too long.
I think its ideally better not to feed them just before exercise, so i try to either feed badger and then take her out a bit later or feed her after a walk. It does not always work out like that, sometimes I give her her dinner just after I have had mine, then we end up going for a walk, and its no problem! I also feed her twice a day rather than once as I feel its preferable.
I do believe that the dog should eat after you though, especially for the firts couple of weeks - there is a lady called Jan Fennel, (dog listener) whose training methods I personally like, (although I know some others will disagree) who feels there are certain things which help the dog know you are in control and allow it to relax, these are basically eating something (even if just a token cracker) before you feed the dog, making the dog go through doorways after rather than before you, you instigating attention and play rather than the dog (ie, when you come in, ignoring the fuss made by the dog, then when the dog is quiet and settled, calling it to you for a fuss- I also think this helps with seperation anxiety)
NILIF (Nothing in life is free) is also a useful concept - ie. before the dog gets anything it should do what you ask of it, so 'sit' before lead is put on, or door is opened for a walk, or before a treat is given. If you google this there is a lot of info on it.
When you first get her home take her into the garden before you go into the flat and let her have a good old sniff and toilet. If she does anything, praise or treat her so she knows it was the right place to go!
The first day or two I would let her settle without too much fuss, and ask any visitors to ignore the dog for the first five minutes (hard to do I know!)0 -
Any ideas for names yet? i guess you can call her whatever you like as they dont know her old name!
Do you want suggestion? my suggestions are - Pippin, (i've always wanted a dog called pip!), Ella, Treacle, Mabel, Beryl the Peril, Ethel, Celeste, (I love old lady names! - if I ever have kids they wil be bullied lol!) or Daisy!0
