Awwww she sounds luvely and you sound so excited! I can remember getting my first dog...... years and years ago....... your life will never be the same again!

Re the neutering, if she likes her belly rubbed have a good look as you can sometimes make out the faint scar, if not a good Vet (or more likley a Vet Nurse :D ) should be able to feel scar tissue, although not always.

You say she pulls when she sees other dogs, is she trying to play?

Did you take a camera????? You know how desperate we are to see her!
    xx
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

lmao I daren't tempt fate! I really want her, they have said yes I can take her if I don't change my mind! But what if the original Owners come forward? Unlikely maybe after 4/5 weeks but  They said she may not even be from the village, someone driving through may have dumped her

I'm looking at bringing her back here a week Sat, Dec 6th, cause I get paid Fri & Sat & can spend Friday shopping! So what do I need & where to buy cheap?! I'll start with a bed, collar, tag & lead & food & water bowls & food & a kong & toys & & & !

Planning on 3 walks minimum a day, i'll be a rake! lolllll

So glad I have here to yap about her, i've told my Granny & she's like 'I feel sorry for the rats!' hmm last I heard she didn't even like bl00dy rats  lol i'm sure they'd be more upset over the cat than a dog & ther dog ain't gonna climb the cage! Seems everything I do they always whinge, like my Mum's on about how will you afford one? !!!!!! lol how does anyone? My pets are given all they need & she had cats that were never vaccinated or wormed or anything!

She won't visit cause I have rats, she can't expect me to sit in a flat alone all the time & never have pets. Gawd I hate family! I'm hoping she won't bark 24/7 cause the council said any complaints they'd have to revoke permission, course i'm hoping if it came to complaints they wouldn't believe the word of anyone with no proof.

Apparently she's very quiet but who knows out of kennels! She's very much a lap dog.

They're not, they had the written permission from landlords & have no garden to check security of & said they don't in all cases, I spose cause I told em straight up i'm on benefits with no garden in a flat they know what's what lol. I told them to visit her anytime tho! And to keep the £60 they send to me if/when she's neutered

Wow just got a quote from M&S for Insurance, we got onto talking about Pet Plan as I looked at them again today & they don't even cover theft by straying, advertising & reward, holiday cancellation etc now! M&S quote was either £227.88 a year or £18.99 a month, £70.00 excess for £7,000 cover. I claimed once before for the cat & it was exactly one month to the day until they paid up so not too bad.

hmmmmmmm guy from PP says it's not available right now, their top cover, but will be back next year! lol
  • I take it you like her then!

lol! I have to go out now but didnt want to not say 'cool'!!

Dont worry about the family - when I rescued my last dog, who I was going to take to the RSPCA (I 'librated' her from the garden of an abandoned house), but I changed my mind, my dad had a right old moan about it 'they are a lot of work, blah blah blah' (lol - I spose its no bad thng for people to try and put you off, cos it is true they are work, and expense, and you have to be prepared for that) - I guess if after they have all grumbed you go ahead anyway at least you have thought it through!

In the end my dad adored my dog, and looked after her whilst I was away, and learnt how to inject her insulin - they became very attached to each other, and when she died, in her sleep, at my dads, we were both as devastated as each other.

However, initiall, be warned, you will also probably feel a lot of 'ooh am I doing the right thing?!?' and a bit worried - I have every time I have got a dog, and I have always felt very daunted and unsure at the start - it soon wears off though when they settle in and I start to love em!

I was with the rats & already am with the dog lol i'm worried that she'll kill my cat! Or that i'll have to take her back cause she hates the cat. At the same time I know the cat would come off best maybe having claws & can escape the dog & she was fine for 7 months with a JRT & a BC X. I guess she means so much to me I want her to be happy & I was even thinking will she be jealous when i'm off to walk the dog?!

If anyone has cat/dog intro tips please say! Her history isn't known before she went to the rescue & they say she seems ok with cats & wants to play. I won't leave them unsupervised just yet & will praise them both when they positively interact. I'll probably keep the dog on the lead for the first half hr or more before letting it loose with the cat & will show the cat her exit!

Then i'm thinking omg what if it barks alot & is different out of kennels & a behaviourist/vet etc can't help?! She's so like the Staff I lost I just know i'll be devastated if it doesn't work. I guess at least I can post here or ask the rescue centre for advice. Should I only let the cat on the bed so the cat has more priveledges & still feels boss? I want the dog to know both me & the cat are above her in this pecking order lol

I'm hopeful they'll settle in time & be good company, my cat is very laid back & wasn't fussed with the ex's Mum's dogs. I'm bl00dy terrified but I guess no matter where they home her there's always a chance she won't fit & I know she needs lots of time to adjust, so it's not like after a few weeks i'd return her for not being perfect! lol

Just gets to me with my Nan because anything I do is wrong, I never say anything & her react positively. Good thing she lives in Hampshire & I rarely see her! lol

Actually checking for a secure garden is only a very small part of a home check... It's about assessing the home and you and any other pets... Our home checker when we had Kira was very meticulous and specific, he went through a lot of things to make sure we had thought about that aspect etc. He spent about 5 seconds looking at our garden and 25 minutes talking to us and making sure we knew what we were taking on. And that infact I didn't secretly have a small breeding farm in the back... In my view a home check is something every rescue should do and I would very seriously question any that don't... And that comes from someone who's been involved in rescue, not just someone who has a rescue dog.
We didn't get a follow up home check afterwards - I don't know if that was because for the first while we popped in regularly at the local RSPCA centre she was from to say hello :) But generally I think follow up checks are important too...

I am concerned that they aren't doing any home checks at all... not because I don't think you're going to give her a good home, but how do they know? They are handing over a life to a stranger...
