You be careful, you dont want to get mown down!!

Pixie is not such a bad name - when I was a teenager a friend had a cat called Elvis and it used to make me laugh when she went out the back door to 'call Elvis in':D

Even worse another friends mum had a dog called Dillan - and she used to call his nickname across the park at high volume.... "Dildo! Dildo! Dildoooooo" - she had no idea what it meant - but we were in crying hysterics from it.:rotfl: :rotfl:

My Dad had two kittens when I worked at the kennels/stables, the farm cats had them. He called his Piewacket! I hated taking it to the Vets which unfortunately I had to lots as he was a very sick boy :!!

Also, just called Oldies, ty above poster! Left a message as it asks. Can't see any in Leicester but some are close like Cambridge & Notts. If I can't get up before i'll be getting a taxi up on Tuesday if she's still there with a friend, tho i'll probably try by bus anyways! Not sure how far up the road it is but it can't be that bad! Taxi will be £20 each way on Tuesday, how money saving am I? lol not!

You're welcome ;) I used to do a lot of work behind the scenes with them and the ladies are very nice! They have their own rescues (in foster homes) but also work with other rescues who have oldies in their care but are struggling to rehome them. Most people sadly still want a cute puppy and not a 5 year old dog or older, yet they need a home as much if not more than any :) If a dog has a medical problem that won't be covered by insurance it is sometimes known for them to give the dog out on permanent foster - ie they continue to cover any medical costs associated to that illness :)
Best of luck with them :)

My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey
  • I love older dogs - my last dog was about seven when I got her, and she had a good nine, almost ten years with me - and never seemed like an old dog - she went grey but she never got slow or crotchety and she was still manically doing her 'run then roll!' stunt at people to get her belly tickled the evening before she died in her sleep.

Badger was somewhere about four we think, and is smashing and full of beans. Older dogs are brilliant, and are usually much more mellow, sensible and housetrained!

It surprises me to see JRTs on the Oldes club at six or so - seeing as they often live till fifteen or more they are still quite young, unluke some of the giant breeds who have a much shorter lifespan and are elderly at seven.

And I would rather have a six year old JRT rather than a manic chewing JRT pup anyday!

Yeah I hope they call, says they call then send out an application. I don't mind what age it is as long as it walks (Will help me too cause I don't leave the house unless severely motivated! least if I have a dog I have to, my Nurse got very excited when I said i'm getting one & said it'll help me too). Someone who works in a Vet's knows of a 1yr old Lab going but I said no, to me a Lab is a Gundog & a year old, wow i'm sure it's not a good thing to have one in a flat! Should be out being busy! lol plus, i'm not keen on Labs (Sorry Lab Owners!)

I adoreeeeeeee Staffies, Huskies, GSD's, Springers, all those breeds I can't have! We always want what we can't have huh! And scruffy dogs like a TV one i've forgotten the name of too! I'm so helpful. The lady @ Animal Aid said they come with either 4 or 6 weeks Pet Plan insurance too! Then i'd just renew it for the year up front unless it wasn't the for life cover in which case i'd change to PP for life.

Anyways, i'll definitely try to get there tomorrow! If not then I guess i'll have to wait until Tuesday & hope she's still there, I forget how long she's been in Kennels. But even then I might fail a home check so i'll just keep updating here & hoping to find something suitable. I'll try all Rescues before resorting to Breeders!

I've just been reading this thread as i am a council tenant too, with a pup, congrats and good luck, sounds like you'll get your dog to make your day :T.

Best bargain for me is poo bags i use supermarket own brands 100 for 20p. they are a little scented and just the right size for Perry's land mines.

He's just turned 9 months, and a proper mummy's boy, loves a cuddle on my lap.

Although a crafty !!!!!! leave a glass of wine out and he will go for it. he's not fussy red, white or beer.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Awww he's gorgeous! I said I don't have tons of room & she's like that's ok, not all dogs need alot as long as they get out etc =) When the RSPCA said they have this no garden, no dog policy I almost said my Cat was born at their shelter & her ex Owners signed a contract to return her if they couldn't keep her but didn't, they stuck an ad in a shop window & I got her 8.5yrs back! Best freebie I ever had! Felt like saying not all 'perfect' Owners are so perfect! lol how childish am I?!
  • Our local council/ park wardens etc give out free poop bags, which is useful!

Tigerlily - I agree about the getting out thing - i work from home quite a lot and tend to become a bit of a hermit and get a bit fed up. Taking the dog out even just for 40 minutes round the local park always picks me up and lifts my mood, even when the weather is crappy, but there is no way I would go and do this without having a dog to walk.

Endorphins and fresh air do you the world of good, and are real stress busters!

Since having my dog I have also discovered some lovely local countryside walks and paths which I would have no reason to explore if I wasnt out with her.

I have also met lots of people who are out walking their dogs who I end up chatting too, and as a result know far more friendly faces in my local area.

I have been out at work today, and in a bit will wrap up warm and do half an hour round the streets with Badger, which is our 'after dark walk' as its streetlit, again, I would have no reason to do this without her and I would feel very aimless if I was to walk in the evenings without a dog.

I think in general, dogs add a lot to people's lives, but then again, they do require a lot of care too.

omg i'm so impatient, how will I wait till Tuesday!? lmaoooo I wish I could work out how far up Forest Road the kennels are, a 5 minute walk is abit different from an hour if it's a dodgy road! Still the right dog will come to me! I don't think she's new in to the kennels, she sounds so perfect tho i'm suprised! But maybe people look at all of the dogs & have a choice of a few dogs & just go for these young rowdy chavs! lolllllll they said she just wants to be cuddled & is so quiet. Probably if I do get her she'll turn into a right mouthy thing! lol

Tiger try google maps ;) there is a sattelite picture option whic although possibly a couple of years old might be enough to show you how far it is you have to walk - and might even show you just how wide the verge is!
