oh, another useful tip to supplement a dry food - and yes I give my dog bones like MrsTine (supervised, and I dont give marrow bones as they can be a bit rich) is to just give your dog some lovely fresh meat from the butchers (liver and chicken wings are ideal, nutritious and cheap - and most dogs will do anything for a bit of liver!) or some sardines which is fab for them and which my dog adores- Oliy fish has omega 3 etc is good for joints, central nervous system, skin, coat and brain!
I buy Badger the value sardines in oil from ASDA, 17p a tin at the moment, and split a tin over two days (pop the other half in a cup in the fridge and it keeps for a few days). She doesnt have this every day but she loves it when they are on the menu!
Dont buy the tescos one they have no ring pull and the tin opener doesnt like the rectangular tin! You risk losing a finger hacking it open with the bread knife!0 -
Would that be with the dried too? Thinking i'll give her mainly dry for her teeth, they're abit yellow but not tooooo bad!0

Dun go Tesco anyways so that's safe! I could wash the sauce off tho!0 -
what with the sardines etc? Yep, I use wagg as her main food and add bits to it - leftover veggies and meat, sardines, rice, pasta whatevers going!
A raw carrot is really enjoyed by most dogs and helps keep teeth clean!0 -
oo carrots are cheap enough! And I have them for the rats too! The cat insisted she NEEDED one & of course hated it  She's still sleeping on the blanket so I guess the dog doesn't smell too bad, watch her hit the roof when it comes home!
If I can find Arden Grange cheaper than £25 let me know! And I think freecycle might have a dog gate so will look there. Good thing I never had kids i'da been a nightmare, I want to do everything right for her & I bet she doesn't even mind as long as she's out of kennels!
I have one of those Snugglesafe pet hot water bottles, well heat pads, for the rats & i'm so tempted to put it in with her lolllllll0 -
sardines in tomato sauce are fine, I am sure the dog will enjoy them but the ones in oil do the job and are cheaper if you are buying them especially for the dog!
My dog also loves a slice of apple, which again helps clean teeth.
As long as you have collar, tags and lead for collecting her, somewhere for her to sleep, and something to eat and drink out of and some food she will be fine.
At the end of the day you can choose what you like but she really needs very little.
I really hope she settles well with the cat and I am sure she will be happy with a place to live, food, exercise and an owner that cares for her!0 -

I'm not even gonna ask how!! - although I do have a big scar on my finger from when I tried to make an omlette faster than they do on that saturday morning cooking programme and decided to slice some cheese into it too!!
Speed cheese slicing is NOT a good idea.ouch.
I really should realise these things, I am, allegedly a 'grown up'!0 -
I don't even know how i'll cope if she doesn't get on with the cat, it's spooky, I was so attached to my old dog that's just like her & it's almost like she's reincarnated lmao. I have Borderline Personality Disorder & get really attached, probably more than most do, I don't think I could take her back but at the same time I know i'd have to if everything else failed so i'm just gonna think they will!
The good thing is she shows 0 aggression to the cats, she's extremely interested but in a curious way not an i'm gonna rip you to pieces way, she genuinely seems like a nice natured dog.
Well I have her collar & lead now & her ID Tag will be with me within 7 days they said so before I get her & the rescue have one on her too with their number & her rescue number.
For her bed i'm thinking one of the plastic ones with a big dog mat/cushion thingy in maybe. I'm hoping she doesn't bark all night cause I know yer not to go to them, but i'll be worried about the neighbours being kept awake!
On the plus side I get her Friday so they may not work the next day lol there is nobody next door & the kitchen wall is on that side so that's good & nobody above me yet.0 -
I'm sure it will go fine
I remember how nervous i was when our dogs were due to come home and it was all fine when they got here, as we were then preoccupied. I'm looking forward to seeing piccies of her in her new home:D .
I feed my dogs Wainwrights Salmon & Potato and they have done well on it, firm poops and no stinky farts :T after poor poop results with numerous brands of chicken & rice incl JWB. I did work out a while ago that if Burns feeding chart is correct then it would cost the same per meal as the wainwrights for us, but as there doing well i've not changed. You have to compare by how much it cost per day for quantity feeding, rather than by cost per bag as often you feed less of the more expensive stuff and also look at ingredients list. I'm forever being advised i should feed x brand as it only costs a tenner per bag
My boys love sardines & mackeral, in fact most fish and its great for tempting them when there a lil stressed & off food when we travel. The sardines go to mush so they can't just eat the tastier stuff. If your going to add wet food to dry then don't forget to alter the amount of dry so that you don't overfeed.
When we went to dog training the trainer suggested chopped up hotdogs, they worked well and much cheaper than those training treats pet shops sell, little bits of cheese also works wellvery MSE!
