Bought my brother a slow cooker today and it came with some lovely recipes that people may like to try. I'll post them one at a time or i will be sat here forever and as i'm a Flylady now i don't want that!!

    HAWAIIAN PORK CASSEROLE

    Ingredients

    1 tbsp oil
    1 onion peeled and crushed
1 clove garlic peeled and crushed
1 green pepper deseeded and sliced
    4oz button mushrooms sliced
1 1/2 ib pork fillet cubed and tossed in

    1oz plain flour
    1 pint pork stock
    2tbsp sherry
15 1/2 oz can pineapple chunks
    salt and freshly ground pepper

Heat the oil in a saucepan, add onions and garlic and cook for 2 - 3 mins.

Add the peppers and mushrooms and cook for 1 - 2 mins

Add pork and cook till browned

Add remaining ingredients and bring to the boil

Add to slow cooker and cook on high for 3 - 5 hrs or low 6 - 10 hrs.

I will be trying this in next week meals but will not buy fillet pork probably just pork steaks. Will also use less meat and bit more veg to make it healthier and cheaper. Hope this helps someone who's stuck for ideas like me.

At the moment I have red lentils and sausage going in my slow cooker, really simple to do and very tasty:

    1 chopped onion
    1 chopped carrot
1 cup lentils (i used red but green/brown will do)
sausages chopped up into about 1 inch long
    1 tin/carton chopped toms
    1 cup beef stock
1 cup water (add more if needed)

Chuck it all in together and leave for about 3hrs on high, 7 hrs low/med. I tend to add the tomatoes half way through once everything is cooking/boiling nicely rather than at the start as it seems to help the lentils cook better. When cooked season to taste and serve with crusty bread or mashed spuds :) For a slightly different taste sometimes I add cumin and a bit of garam masala at the start.

I just do a basic chicken casserole once a week:

    1 chicken breast per person,
    Leeks,
    Celery,
    Carrot,
    onion,
    potato,
    2 chicken oxo cubes.

You can make a soup for the next day from the left over liquid.

  • Beef in beer - takes 15 minutes tops to prepare

    Shin beef
    Plain flour
    Onions
Carrots and any other root veg you have to hand, cut into chunks
    Fresh or dried Thyme
    beer - I use 1 can Mackeson
beef stock - use a cube if you don't have any fresh

Brown off the cubed beef in a frying pan, in dripping if you have it or oil if you don't . Sprinkle a level tablespoon of flour and toss around. Take out and put into the slow cooker. Brown the onions and root veg in the same fat and maybe a little garlic if you like it. Put it all in the slow cooker. Add the beer and enough liquid (stock or water-and-stock cube) to just cover the other ingredients and thyme to taste, I use fresh a couple of sprigs but you can use 1 teasp dried. Leave in slow cooker all day. If you don't eat it all it makes brilliant pie filling. You can also add potatoes to make a one-pot meal.

    Go to:- Delia online

Search using the word guinea and substitute your venison for the guinea fowl.

Follow all the instructions except adding the mushrooms, and cook on low for 4-5 hours. Add the mushrooms no more than an hour before your expected dishing up time.

When it comes to time to reduce the liquids, lift all your solid bits out, decant the liquids into a pan, then put the solids back into the slow cooker to keep warm.

This is absolutely delicious - I promise :)
