I'm thinking of getting one too. Been plenty convinced on here that they are the bees knees! If your electrical supply is fine, then they are safe to leave on, but I use one of those things that disconnect the power supply if there's a power surge on my breadmaker. That means I can relax when it's on over night.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I got a slow cooker earlier in the year & so far have made, chicken & beef casseroles - yummy - the meat just falls apart (even my fussy son likes it as its not too chewy). I did make sausage casserole but personally we prefer the sausages not to be so soft, I did try mince but that didn't work out well at all - dunno what I did wrong, my friend does it & says hers works out fine - there must be a knack ! She also does a leg of lamb but in the slow cooker it stays soft & doesnt go crispy so not sure about that. It is great tho, you can buy a cheap pack of meat, put it in with gravy or tin soup, some veg, & off you go - lovely smell when you get home too ! I haven't tried puddings yet - but will do this winter.0

Sausage caserole is nice - just brown the sausages under the grill first to give them a bit of colour! Most meats are good in there and add frozen vegatables and potatoes. However, I do admit to cheating and using caserole sachets!
At home I've got a recipe for chocolate cake in the slow cooker, I've not tried it, but I'll try and remember to dig it out and pass it on!Official DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My DebtsDFW Long Hauler #109

Broadband outage all day  but I've chucked in some mince, onion, red pepper, aubergine a tin of kidney beans and tomato's. I've added salt, pepper, chili flakes, hot paprika and a couple of spoons of dower-house chutney (2000 vintage, lurking at the back of the cupboard) - oh and a bit of cumin. A little water and....... lets wait and see. If this isn't any good I will be SO disappointed.0

In the mega Index there is a link to a Morphy Richards manual that you can download in pdf. format (Acrobat reader). That will give you some recipes to try as the principles are the same, regardless of the model.0

Well the result was ok - not superb but very tasty. I think I needed to add more spices and salt and a little less liquid + a splash of wine or stock rather than water. I've got to get used to not being able to taste as you cook - but as soon as I get the hang of it I'm sure it'll be brilliant.
Thanks for all your suggestions, :T + I'm going to study the index tomorrow and download that pdf file.0 -
BrandNewDay wrote:You can literally throw in a lump of frozen beef, chop up some onions and carrots, and toss in a handful of frozen peas - add a bit of salt and pepper, then leave it on low all day long while you're at work. You will come home to a good roast dinner!
Do you need to put any liquid with this (stock or gravy) or literally just throw in a raw joint of meat and raw veg?If so, I think you are an angel for telling me this - am SUCH a lazy cook!!

I bought a slow cooker book for £6.99 yes I know. But I love pictures and not lots of bits of loose paper.
It does not just cover slow cookers but one pot meals.
And it has a cakes in it and my husband has made a couple and they where lovely but do come out a little bit squidgy.
I use mine mainly for rice pudding yum yum and cooker sunday joints. Cook them for a couple of hours in the slow cooker and then bung them in the oven for the last hour so I can have some very nice roast potatoes.
But might try mince and I have a bit of stewing steak will try that out next week.
