OK, so according to the land registry a charge is ' A way of securing the payment of money.' so basically a loan secured against the house.

This would mean he can only do this if he applys for and gets a loan and if his credit score is that bad, theres little chance of this. (not sure the legal side of securing it against your house)

    According to insurance website:

What is the difference between the 'owner' and 'registered keeper'?

There may be a reason for the owner and registered keeper to be different individuals. For example, you may use a car that is owned by someone else in which case you would be the registered keeper. Or you may own a car that you allow your children to use and therefore the registered keeper would be one of your children.

So in your case, he doesnt own the car - it belongs the legal property of your mothers (or the car finance people)

check with the dvla, but am sure you are legally allowed to sell it.

oh and cancel his car insurance (and get remainder of year refund) immediately!!!!

Don't forget to tell him about the car insurance....so that he can arrange his own. If it does get nasty and goes to court you can then at least say that you told him about it so that he could make his own arrangements.

    Other options:

Council Tax: As I said, speak to your local council regarding council / poll tax and you not living there. Its possible that you can stop paying the council tax for the house too....and not get in trouble, as you aren't living there. You would have to check this out though, as you are the registered owner of the house.

    Utility bills: Same as above.

But be careful, as you don't want them to come back and bite you on the bum if he can't or won't pay. Check these through thoroughly before cancelling anything....and let him know so that he can make his own arrangements.

Remove anything of yours of value, ie, personal value, or monetary value. If he starts to get really nasty he will destroy everything.

Charge to house: Not sure if he can do this if he isn't the legal owner of the house. If he doesn't own the property, then a finance company has no right to add a charge to it. At least...that's my theory anyway.

I would suggest that you inform him about the car insurance by letter, sent Special Delivery, and keep a copy for yourself. Special Delivery does cost a bit extra but it is traceable and must be signed for. He can't deny that he was told then. ;)

    Yep, I agree with rchddap1,

Also stops him getting nasty and thinking he can just take things - ie like the TV, stereo etc etc.

Maybe I would wait until he goes away to remove the things he will notice though, you dont want to aggravate him whilst he still has access to the property.

Take anything of value to your parents, soon.

And find the spare car keys and put them in a safe place - if you can sell, and its looking that way, you ll need them.

:snow_grin By the sounds of it I need to start thinking differently about HIM, and treat him with the contempt he deserves, I realise Ive been to soft and let him walk all over me these past weeks but Im still looking at him with feelings and he is looking at me with pound signs in his eyes.

So the "rose coloured glasses are off"

I am typing the letter now about his insurance, it seems strange that he lives at the same house and Im going to get it sent by recorded del, but like you say wouldnt trust him as far as I could throw him.

    Thanks again all
