OMG Nottslass! As they say "what a difference a day makes!" Your post made me cry! I am absoloutely ecstatic for you :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
I can't describe how happy I am to read about a BFP, over on the other thread there's a newbie just joined to pop in and say she'd got a BFP and I just felt so insanely annoyed and jealous and I really hated myself for feeling like that! However I feel great now because of your BFP! I really wish you have a really happy and trouble free 9 months and will it be a valentines baby?
Come on Toniq we need you to follow suit now!

Thanks FE for your post, I kind of sea what you mean about it taking the pressure off but you're all still very brave and courageous!:T
  • Ooh Nottslass, huge congrats! Madmac said on the other thread there was a BFP on here and although I don't post here I do try and keep up with your stories and just wanted to send you my best wishes x

I'm feeling like that's moving things quite quickly - doesn't ICSI normally get tried before IVF? I feel like we might be skipping a couple of steps, and that's good (although it also must mean our natural chances are less than we initially thought). So a bit scary - we had a real shock when we were told, but all in all we feel pretty positive about it all. And in a year we'll still only be 30, so it's all good.

    Hi Jiblets,

Glad that you have an action plan and feel that you are getting somewhere - I found that it really helped me to be able to plan and know what the next steps were going to be.

In answer to your question, I think you might be thinking of IUI rather than ICSI. ICSI is a form of IVF - basically, in 'normal' IVF the eggs & sperm are put together in a dish and left to 'do their thing', in ICSI a sperm is selected and injected into the egg. At my clinic it is +£400 than IVF to have ICSI - it's generally done when there are issues with the sperm, or if after one or two cycles of IVF the eggs don't fertilise on their own, even if no issues with the sperm are identified.
    Hope that helps!

I have 'borrowed' this from another forum, as it seems so appropriate to many of us on here:

Deciding to have a baby is like planning a trip to Australia. You've heard it is a wonderful place, you've read many guidebooks and feel certain that you're ready to go. Everyone you know has gone there by plane. They say it can be a turbulent flight with occassional rough landings, but you look forward to being pampered on the trip.

So you go to the airport and ask the ticket agent for a ticket to Australia. All around you, excited people are boarding planes for Australia. It seems that there is no seat for you; you'll have to wait for the next flight. Impatient, but anticipating a wonderful trip, you wait....and wait.......and wait.........

Flights to Australia come and go. People say silly things like. "Relax. You'll get on a flight soon. Other people actually get on a plane and then cancel the trip, to which you cry, "IT'S NOT FAIR!"

After a long time the ticket agent tells you, "I'm sorry, we're not going to be able to get you on a plane to Australia. Perhaps you should think about going by boat."

"By Boat!" you say. "Going by boat will take a very long time drifting in deep waters. I really had my heart set on going by plane." So you go home and you think about not going to Australia at all. You wonder if Australia will be as beautiful if you approach it by sea rather than by air. But you have long dreamed of this wonderful place, and finally decide to travel by boat.

It is a long trip, many months over many rough seas. No one pampers you. You wonder if you will ever see Australia. Meanwhile, your friends have flown back and forth to Australia two or three more times, marvelling about each trip.

Then one glorious day, the boat docks in Australia. It is more exquisite than you ever imagined, and the beauty is magnified by your long days at sea. You have made many wonderful friends during your voyage, and you find yourself comparing stories with others who also travelled by sea rather than by air.

People continue to fly to Australia as often as they like, but you are able to travel only once, perhaps twice. Some say things like "Oh, be glad you didn't fly. My flight was horrible; travelling by sea is so easy."

You will always wonder what it would have been like to fly to Australia. Still, you know you have been blessed with a special appreciation of Australia, after all the beauty of Australia is not in the way that you get there, but in the place itself.

With much love to my fellow travellers,

    FE

I'm off for a few days later today - be back next Tuesday after the bank hol - have a good one everyone!

Thank you soo much for that FE, it is a fantastic analogy and story, i am not sure i will have to travel by boat, but have missed a fair few planes so far. That will make me smile a little if AF arrives or things dont go the way i expected or wanted. Thank you sooo much, have a fabulous time away :)

Using the above analogy, a friend's daughter, 17, had an unexpected ticket for the plane, but cancelled the trip yesterday. I was really angry & upset when I first heard that she had the ticket (jealous is not the word!) but although I think she did the right thing for her circumstances, can't help feeling strangely sad about it....sometimes things seem just so unfair....
