Finally some progress (or not). Called BUPA on Friday, and they will cover the consultations. So, as it was late on Friday already, this morning I managed to get an appointment to see a consultant at private hospital just a couple of miles down the road under BUPA cover on May 26th. Now just need to get the GP to fax over the referral letter to this private hospital.

I will be cancelling my appointment in August (!!!!) under NHS, but I am going to keep my appointment for ultrasound on May 15th, I think. I can then ask for the results and take them to the private consultant when I see him on the 26th. Do you think they would give me the copy of their findings?

Once you have asked your GP to fax over the letter phone the hospital yourself to make sure they have got it after a day or two.
From experience what a busy Doctor says they are going to do and what they actually do are 2 different things.

Not sure if they will give you a copy of the scan results. When I have had a mix of Private and NHS the NHS doctors have sent the results/findings to my Private consultant.
Having said that I have never asked for the results but they have never been offered either. Doesn't hurt to ask I guess.

    Good luck

Thanks - I will definitely check if the referral is received.
I have asked for my blood tests previously from my old surgery and it was no problem to have a copy of those.

Do you think there is a chance that the hospital would refuse to do the ultrasound if I told them I am going to go private and would they please mind to forward the results to the private consultant? I know that Bupa will cover me for any ultrasounds, bloods and x-rays, but I thought we would be a step closer if I get these done now, as I already have appointments.

Hi, Just had my scan after 4 days of stimms, only got 4 follies (2 less than this stage last time),but trying to stay positive,as its early days.

If I had time on my side I'd definitely abandon this cycle as I just feel every thing is so wrong !!!

Nottslass, when I had my DS it was an IVF cycle and I only produced 1 follicle worth its salt after 14 days stimming. They suggested I abandon the cycle as this was not enough to make it worth harvesting, and convert to an IUI. 2 weeks later I got my BFP after 14 solid days of tears and disappointment. You never know which is going to be the cycle which works, however inauspicious the start.

And sod work, with all luck you'll be leaving them for a long maternity leave in about 7 months time, so let them enjoy their petty games while they can!

Don't tell them until after the scan? Once its done ask them to send the results to Doctor/Consultant so & so at so & so Hospital.
If they wont do that I'd speak to the private consultant when you get home from the scan and tell him/her they need to get the results/findings from the NHS.

ginvzt, when I have had private consultant appointments, the consultant himself has done the ultrasound there and then. I wouldnt say anything to the NHS, but you may find that you dont need it.

Nottslass, I dont respond very well to the stimming, so I only produced 1 follicle the last time I had a stimulated cycle - thats why I do natural IVF now not stimmed. Sometimes this happens, but you have 4 follicles, and that is more than enough to get your embryos. You may find though that they will put them back at an earlier stage rather than blastocyst but they will advise you of the best thing to do. Re abandonment, its a difficult call. You dont know the quality of your eggs/embryos. Your 4 might be top A quality, you just cant tell. The more you produce doesnt mean that they will be better ones, just more!!!

How did the scan go toniq?

They have to poke around to find my left ovary,I usually have to "make a fist" under my bum before they can see mine - they'll probably be able to see yours by the next scan.

    Good luck

Thanks all. I think I'll cancel the ultrasound as well as the appointment in August (!!!! I still can't believe it!). I will save half day holidays doing this as I don't want to ask for time off at work for these 'medical investigations' - too much explanation to do...
