I read a report (I think it was in New Scientist or Bella - they are the only two things I read) that the only vaguely reliable thing to determine sex is the due date. Supposedly, baby boys are slightly weaker, so tend to be born in the warmer time, from March to September. According to the article, if you have a baby born when its warmer, its about 55% likely to be a boy.

That's a really sweet idea MrsTine.

I'm not sure about 'normal' maternity units, but I have knitted tiny woollen hats for the premature baby wards and they are gratefully received.

Do you have any midwife friends or nursing friends who might be able to advise you on the best thing to donate and to which ward etc?

Oh, and please report your findings back as I would be really interested to hear how I could help too :A

Ill tell you where would be a good place to donate stuff, the local childrens centre (formerly sure start centre's) as they reach out to the most vulnerable in the community and they are always giving out stuff if they can, they reach out to single, vulnerable, the young and the less fortunate. Just go on line and google childrens centre and the town you live in, there is one for every area. I know they would be very grateful for donations for disadvantaged new mums.

I got a bit of cramps and a spotting of fresh blood, I know it can mean nothing, but ill have to wait and see. I guess its out of my hands anyway.
    take care ladies

Thanks Nicole, but I'd rather donate through the hospital directly to new mums who come in needing help there and then. Sure start is a government scheme and that means they get funding already :)

    Evening ladies and happy halloweeeeen,

I am really keen to find out if bubs is boy or girl (would be happy with either) and according to the (scientific  ) test below its a boy!!

    http://pregnancy.about.com/library/quiz/boygirl/blboygirlquiz.htm

Thought others might want to try to... I had to make up some of the answers as not far enough along to know but hey!

    :rotfl: :rotfl:

I just did it, and got a girl! Which is what my scan said 5 weeks ago!

My boys are October and November, my friends little girl is August, my sister is june,,,,,,I'm not sure really about all these predictions of sex. but at the end of the day everyone is more likely to carry boys as the ratio is 49% girl 51% boy for each conception. However some men are prone to having unbalance sperm type ie, why some couples have all daughters and some all sons.

  • Ems2 and SB - east enders wasn't holding my attention so I thought I'd give the "quizzes" a go... both say a boy, will have to wait a couple more weeks to find out! The chinese calendar one based on previous pregnancy said a girl and thats what I had! My SIL had both her kids in Nov, first one a girl and second a boy so can't work out how the time of year works with that one! Tee hee, a bit of fun eh x
