hi everyone i need your advice as ive been very stupid and now im stressed when i said i wouldnt!

ok basically i did 2 tests this month on the 12th and then about a week later, in the afternoon and the evening, and they were both negative. stupid of me, i realise it was too early to detect HCG or whatever it is, and not only that, i did it when it would of been diluted anyway..

anyway i started getting faint period pains which is what i expect and then was due on yesterday. so far nothing. my boobs have become very sore again

ANYWAY i did a test this morning and there was a faint pos line. now it was faint but def there. compared to the two other tests where theres wasnt a line at all in the slightest, there is a slight one there.

unfortunaly, because id convinced myself im not pregnant i still dont think i am and am thinking the second i say ok i am, im sure aunt flow would be back. if i haddnt of done those 2 tests in the month id be sure i am, although shouldnt the line be strong if im a day later and more to the point, these slight period pains, shouldnt there be none whatso ever??

ive bought another 2 tests before work but i havent dnoe them as im too scared to. scared ni that my hgp-thingy level will be weaker now so it might be a negative...

i dont want to say anything to hubby who is also convinced im not because i told him id done 2 tests and they were neg

    what does anyone think???

    xxxx

I researched accuracy rates this month, when I was sure my BFN was wrong (though sadly it wasn't). A home pregnancy test is only 78% accurate when done on the day your period is due, and the 98% accuracy doesn't kick in until your period is a week late. The reason why tests can get away with advertising that they are "98% accurate from the day of the missed period" is because they measure their results against whether other pregnancy tests detected the pregnancy at that point, not against whether time subsequently shows that the woman was pregnant at the time she tested! (This is from a peer reviewed article published in the BMJ so sounds highly likely to be true).

There is a wide variation between women in HCG levels in early pregnancy, which is why some women are able to get a BFP as early as 8dpo and some don't get one until 21dpo+. This isn't a fault on the part of the tests to detect a pregnancy, but simply a biological fact. There doesn't seem to be any evidence to suggest that a pregnancy which isn't detected until later is more vulnerable, provided once it is detected that HCG levels continue to rise steadily.

Pre-menstrual cramping, nausea, etc are all caused by higher progesterone levels which can be caused by either pregnancy or impending AF.

The bottom line of which seems to be: You aren't out until AF appears.

    Good luck

    Hello djdymond

I would say if you have a faint line then you are most likely pregnant.
It doesn't matter how faint the line or the fact that your period is due today it is still a positive result.

The early symptoms of pregnancy for me were very similar to pre AF symptoms (sore boobs, heavy dragging feeling like AF was just about to happen).

I would do another test tomorrow if AF hasn't turned up - will keep everything crossed for you x

    Don't lose the hope!!!!
I feel like I have a cold coming for a few days - stuffy nose, dull headache, sore throat... But hey - I can still get BFP, can't I? So, no paracetamol or similar - stick to honey, lemon and mint (not at the same time!) Oh well, if there is still no AF by this time next week, it would be rather promising - it would CD28, and last 3 cycles where no longer than 27 days! (oh, and that would be 17DPO!)

Annie - sorry you didn't get your BFP this year, hopefully the new year will bring more luck.

I'm not feeling positive about getting a BFP this month, as my temp is all over the place which could be due to a cold or the fact DD won't let me sleep for more than 2hrs at a time (she has a cold and want to sleep in our bed). No symtoms yet and 8DPO.

djdymond - I would retest in the morning to be sure, I had BFN on the Saturday and Tuesday before I got a very faint BFP on the wednesday evening when expecting DD. Good Luck.

If you keep getting faint lines I'd say you've got a BFP, mine were hardly visable - you could alway's go with a clearblue test just to be sure.

The line might be a bit darker tomorrow morning djdymond but any line in the test window no matter how faint is a positive so congratulations x

djdymond that sounds like a positive to me! maybe you could tkae a photo and post it up for a second opinion?

I'm willing to bet that line will be stronger and darker tomorrow though, 2 faint lines sounds pretty convincing to me!

Just a quick update from my end, we did BD finally last night and I think i just need to back up and relax a bit, I was putting too much pressure on us to get down to it...

although OH did turn over last night and say "there you go...now you're pregnant!", i did try and explain that it's not quite that easy in reality but maybe he knows something i don't!!:rotfl:
