Another little earner for Ryanair

[Nobijock, I actually agree with you on this one. Always make some nice rolls and homemade goodies before I go on a trip and some luxury items that I normally would not buy. Take lots of fruit because you cannot take drinks anymore through security. I could never pay airline prices for a sarnie and a cup of lukewarm tea, I would rather save my money for when I land and go out for a nice meal for the same price.
That's what it is all about after all making the best use of the money that you do have and making it go much further. That is why I love this site so much.
Whinging Welshie
And do you know what makes me laugh - every single time I get a Ryanair flight I see people who have got up in the middle of the night and been prepared to travel to obscure airports all over Europe and then blow all the money they've saved on a round of drinks and some sandwiches on the plane because they haven't got the gumption to bring their own.
Crazy ![/quote]0 -

I have taken minature vodkas through security, the 50ml bottles, they have been empty bottles filled up, put a bit of clingfilm round them, and then in a plastic bag.
Then we just buy a bottle of diet coke when we go through.0 -
The next item on the bill was from Ryanair, but it was not for the 60 Euros that I had been charged, it was for £50.50. If they had charged 60 Euros the CC cmpany would have charged me £47.61.
In effect they are saying they charge 60 Euros, but charged in sterling at a rate that THEY decide is correct. I really do question the legality of this
According to VISAs own rules this is not allowed cf
http://www.visaeurope.com/personal/travellingabroad/xe_faqs.jsp
note: Visa requires that you are provided with a clear choice at the point of sale. You have the right to make your purchase in the local currency to avoid any additional fees the merchant may assess.
I'd suggest you contact your card issuer (bank) tell them what Ryanair did and quote the visaeurope link above. Do let us know how you get on.0 -
I hate RA, even though I've never travelled with them just because of all these horror stories you here. What I don't understand is how come you were charged the 60e in the first place if your bags were under weight?0

The way RA works is that each passenger is allowed 15kg of hold baggage. We were a family of 4, 3 bags weighed in at an average of 12/13 kg, unfortunately the last one to go through (my teen aged daughters of course:rolleyes:) was 19 kg, RA rules are that you cannot "share" weights, one passenger=15kg;). If I had guessed that the one was over I would have "spread" the load, but hey ho, cest le vie. I knew their rules & my complaint is not with being charged (peed off yes:mad:, but not complaining), my complaint is that I was told I was being charged 60 euros, which should have come out at £47.50 via my Nationwide CC, but RA claimed £50.50 with no mention of euros:mad:.
Again, it is not the amount, it is the principle.0 -

What about the 62 million passengers in the last 12 months who have not had a 'horror story' - do they not count for anything?
Do you hate every other company that is complained about on the Internet? It seems a very silly way to live you life surely?0 -

spot on robt, even though snake 16 has a valid moan about ryanair, this horror story is about £3 and included a good flight with no complaints.
maybe we should have a sticky thread thing or sub forum for those ryanair haters who have never flown with them, they could swap horror stories and discuss underweight bags costing €60

Spot on too. I am not a RA moaner. I started this thread because I felt I had been diddled out of my hard earned in a particular way & still do, I think that it is a practice that RA should cease because it is dodgy dealing IMHO.spot on robt, even though snake 16 has a valid moan about ryanair, this horror story is about £3 and included a good flight with no complaints.
As regards RA generally, I have no problem using them, I am in fact booked with them later this year. I realise that they are a class act in the art of the hidden cost, it is a case of recognising where they CAN up their charge & make sure they DON'T do it to you:beer: . I will (hopefully) enjoy my flight with them especially in the knowledge that I am fully aware of all of their potential add ons & that they will be getting the original ticket price from me only, no more:j
I started this thread as a newbie without any particular feelings towards RA & have subsequently read many old threads re RA. I am neither an RA lover or hater, just someone pointing out a particular practice carried out by a business that IMHO is dodgy. I feel that RA provide a value for money service that I choose to use on occasion because it suits me.
If my favourite supermarket started extracting an extra 1% out of me in a dodgy way, then I possibly would point it out on this forum, but I would not necessarily stop using them. To have a complaint about a company is not a reason to stop using them.0 -
Well I'm an RA lover.
I've probably flown over a hundred times with them, always incredibly cheaply on modern planes which have had an excellent punctuality record.
Okay the staff are brusque, non-nonsense and often a bit on the minger side but when your flight is cheaper than a meal at the departure airport who cares ?
You have to f eel sorry for the poor saps who complain about the service on an airline that has virtually single-handedly forged the template for low-cost travel and takes millions of people every year on flights they may not otherwise have been able to afford.
I'm all for tightwads but you can take the concept too far.0
