    Quite right

However if you'd flown with somebody else you probably wouldn't have been hit with the £50 charge for having an over wieght bag.

It's more and more common policy now amongst airlines and if people are too thick to put their bag on the bathroom scales they deserve to be shafted for £50.
I despair of people who can't be bothered or are too stupid to read very simple rules laid down by Ryanair and then when they arrive at the airport wonder why they're being hit with extra charges.

Read it again. Swap Local Currency for Euro so they can charge UK Pounds/Euro or Euro, they picked UK Pounds

Though the 50p is still puzzling me, possibly a CC surcharge?

EDIT: The choosing UK Pounds might still be their choice in a non Euro country, I suspect they will pick whatever is best for them financially, wouldn't you??

But they didn't pick GBP, they very clearly picked Euros, as confirmed by the credit card receipt.

Which brings us back to the question which concerns me..... How can a transaction in a given currency appear on a credit card bill in another currency as opposed to the standard process which is appearing in the currency the transaction was carried out in and then being converted to GBP?

So far we are no nearer to getting an answer to that question than we were at the start of the thread.

Maybe there is a system that permits currency conversions to be carried out post transaction, but it woud have to be a banking standard and not unique to Ryanair. :)

Anyway, it's going to be interesting to hear what the OPs Credit Card company has to say. :)

i agree with you nobjocki and your honest views which mirror mine, we both can see ryanair faults and the excellent service they provide too, because we use them often

what you tend to find with ryanair moaners is that they actually have never flown with them or hardly have done

rabbit mad is a perfect example of never have done never will poster who imagines what might happen on a flight, and how you pay nothing and get nothing in return, and how other airlines wont charge you £50 for an overweight bag, and recalls stories from years ago....blah blah blah, your views amount to just about nothing rabbit

rabbit try and find ryanair horror stories on this forum, thousands of ryanair posts which normally amounts to a non rip off/horror story, it usually amounts to paying charges becasue as nobjocki said people cant be bothered to think, and then get angry after the event

I'm getting quite p***ed off with you insinuating that I am thick when you know f**k all about me.

I have explained several times before, but just for Nobjockis sake I'll try again.

I was & am very well aware of RA terms re baggage weight, my daughters bag was overweight, (yea I know, I should have taken my scales on hols with me, but hey, they weigh 4kgs:mad:)

I am not bothered (& can well afford thank you) the 60 euros charged. My "problem/complaint" was that I was asked to pay 60 euros, I paid with my CC, the exchange rate that day (as confirmed by other purchases) was 1.268944, therefore I would expect my CC bill to request £47.28, but I have been charged £50.50. Why is that thick/stupid of me to think that is inherently wrong.

Again, I have earned many, many times the £3.22 difference today, but I earned it by quoting customers a price for a service & charging them that price, not more. I feel that I was misled, the advice of not using them again is not the point, I will continue to use RA if & when it suits my needs at the time as it does in the coming few months;)

That is the point, my credit card receipt states 60 euros & therefore the exchange rate should be determined by the CC company not RA.
How does this show because this may alter my view on them doing wrong!

I recently booked a return flight with Ryanair and was quoted in Euros as the flight price but the entry reads like this on my statement:

    02 Oct 2008Debit Card - Ryanair Int 000000 Dublin 167.75

The 167.75 is for 2 flying with all the same things on so must have been converted to end in an odd number but no conversion rate is mentioned nor Euro amount.

I do still have the feeling that they may just be flying within the bounds of legal and potentially just about ethical if the cost you paid is one mentioned on the website that you are supposed to know by heart along with all T+C and weights/allowences etc!

If it says 60 Euros @ XYZ to equal £50.50 that is another matter entirely.

Oh and just for the record I don't think of you as thick or an idiot, in fact you come across very well and have something that may be a misunderstanding (Ryanairs fault if you ask me but still not necessarily against everything thats on their website.) or maybe that they have done something far worse.

As to your experience on the flight itself I haven't seen you complain once so I am not sure why anyone is preaching to just not fly with them anymore based on your OP

You've gotta get over this one baby.
The bottom line is that despite all that is known about Ryanair's baggage requirements as are clearly laid out on their website you chanced your arm trying to get an overweight bag through and you got caught out.
Be a man, take the hit and don't start whingeing about how Ryanair are rip-off merchants because they're not ... what they are are very smart and they eat people like you for breakfast.
By the way - you haven't told us exactly how much your paid for the flights from Gerona - let's hear the full story now fella.

The OP has gone out of their way to repeatedly state that they have no problem with Ryanair, the service they provide or their fee structure, just as the OP has repeatedly pointed out that they only take issue with paying in Euros, receiving a credit card receipt in Euros and then finding that they have an unconverted GBP figure on their credit card statement.

So why do the usual suspects choose not to read what is repeatedly written and choose instead to go off on irrelivant rants? .... Your guess is as good as mine. ;)

I really am beginning to lose the will to live here, trying to explain in very simple terms (obviously not simple enough for you) I'll try one last time:-

I DID NOT CARE THAT I HAD OVERWEIGHT BAGS, I DID NOT TRY TO "GET THEM THROUGH", I DID NOT GET "CAUGHT OUT" I WAS HAPPY TO PAY 60 EUROS (£47.28), BUT I WAS CHARGED £50.50.!!!!! How much simpler can I make it.

If you go to Tescos tomorrow & the check out girl says £50 please, you pass over your plastic & a week later your statement is for £53, because Tesco felt like adding it to your bill to improve their profits I am sure you would be peeved (but it is OK as it is in their T&Cs), even though they are offering cheap food to everyone as in "RA allow us all to fly", well maybe Tescos allow us all to eat, IMO it is the same.

    Very intellectual comment.

    Was it £1 or £1000?, a) I can't remember & b) !!!!!! has it got to do with anything?

Goddamit!!!! I have just worked it out, I really must be stupid & thick as suggested, it is now clear to me as I have re read his inputs:-

    Nobjocki is Sir Michael O'leary,

Sorry Micky, now I realise why it has been such hard work, sorry to have wasted your time:rotfl:

Looking forward to flying with you come December
