  • No way would I dump my cat, he's part of the family! Poor animals :(
Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice. :(

    Illegitimi Non Carborundum!!!
  • aaawwww............... I hope they get a home soon

I love little oldie boy doggies - they make me think of little grumpy old men, plonked in front of the fire and those two look so adorable - wish i lived in a hosue and had the space for them all but with a jack russell terrorist I dont think they'd get much peace.

havent looked at the local rescue I support as its just too gut wrenching - Id love to give another doggy a home and sadly a friend of mine jsut had to rehome his two jack russells as he is out of work and he had 3 dogs, a staff and 2 JRT pups which his wife wanted (she then neglected them) whereas he looked after the staffy as he has had her for abotu 8 years now (since a pup) they have now gone one to a family home and one to a farm near to his house. me and BF have said though that if push came to shove and he cant afford to keep his staffy Ripley that we would take her in as she is the most gorgeous little thing and we've known her 6 years and wouldnt see her rehomed.

(at a push we would have taken one of his JRT - cant handle 3 of them and my 4 year old son! but he had rehomed them before he told us)
    Time to find me again
  • Aww they look lovely dogs. The space in front of my fire is rather full though.

Hope someone takes them on and can give them a lovely Christmas.

Is there a link back to the thread when you found them FC ?

Go back to page 1, it starts with me panicking cos I had caught the boy and the girl had run off scared!
  • Thanks FC have read most of the thread but the computer w'ouldn't/couldn't get pages 3 and 4 ....weird.

I think most of us that have bonded strongly with our animals would refuse to part with them. However I have met people who don't like their animals 'It's my husbands dog' etc and if the husband 'goes' without the dog then it is an unwanted expensive reminder.....

I also know of a very strange lady, through a friend of mine, I first met her when my friend was trying to rehome the lady's Tibetian Terrier. A six month old puppy which had been shut up in a one bedroom flat and not trained now the lady wanted rid of it because it chewed and messed and the neighbours complained because it barked when she went out! I was willing to rescue the poor dog until I was told that the lady wanted the £350 she had payed for the dog !! She lived on benefits so it was a huge amount to her, she couldn't understand that the dog now wasn't worth that value because she hadn't trained it. I felt sad and worried, eventually the dog went to the lady's brother and was rehomed when it was about a year old. Part of me wished I'd paid and taken the dog but it seemed so wrong to pay her for doing this, also to pay so much and take on who knows what problems !

I heard later that this lady had then taken on ...and rejected a poodle and now owned a Cavalier King Charles !! My friend had desperately tried to stop this lady from buying these dogs but she seemed to have no sense at all that she was doing the wrong thing ! People have obviously sold these animals to her without looking into her home circumstances. She is a very 'strange' lady and I believe under psychiatric treatment. She believes these animals will make her happy and solve her problems but of course they don't.

I wouldn't part with either of my two any more than I would part with one of the children ...... (can you send dogs to university ? ? :rotfl: :rotfl: )
We can't even bear to leave them behind when we go on holiday so we just go to places where the dogs can come too!

It's heartbreaking. Would I dump an animal? Not bloomin likely!

My girl, Rolo, a couple of months ago cost us over £1000 in vets fees. I didn't have insurance as we'd had to fix the car up, so foolishly I put it off until next month.
I had to use the credit card. It was a disaster that month. Dog cost us £1000, car cost us £2000.

Saying that though, I DID rehome a dog, earlier this year. I had a boy too - Tonka. It wasn't the finances, just that the situation I found myself in was unbearable. I loved the dog to bits, but the pair of them would just constantly charge around, and fight (usually play fight), and wouldn't stop no matter how much exercise they got, and they just ignored me - it was like I didn't exist when trying to stop them. They knocked the kids over, broke ornaments etc. So, I tried crating one up whilst the other was out, and vice versa, which resulted in solid barking from the one in a crate, plus neither liked the crates. So, reluctantly I rehomed Tonka (he was bought after the other one)
The family I rehomed him with didn't give us any cash for him - they had none, but they did give him a damned good home, and he's settled, happy, and remarkably well behaved now LOL. I couldn't have sent him to an animal shelter though. The girl is also much happier and more settled, so in this case I believe it was the right thing to do.

Anyway, that turned into a kind of a pointless waffle, didn't it LOL?

It will probably get worse after christmas. All those dogs that get bought as presents then their owners decide they don't want them.

It'as the run up to christmas that's worse believe it or not... people "get rid of the old to make room for the new"... seriously!
They will dump their older dogs that the kids now have no interest in and get a "cute" puppy... then in a couple of years time when THAT'S boring they'll dump that. Or if they are going away for christmas it's easier to dump the dog than find kennels for it. And no I'm really not kidding!

Poor things. What makes it worse is that dogs are so very loyal and trusting.
Apart from my Tonks, anyway. Trusting, yes, loyal? Didn't even look back, the little traitor LOL.
    still miss the blighter.

  • I really dont believe this so called credit crunch is forcing dog and cat owners to give up their pets, I truly believe they are using it as an excuse to get rid off the poor animals ,they most not have really cared about them in the first place. I work for marks and spencers and my daughter works for argos and we both see the amount of cash/credit that people are spending. It doesnt cost that much to feed your pets afew pence aday, sadly some humans treat animals like toys and throw them a way when they get bored with them.AN ANIMAL IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS:snow_laug :santa2: :snow_laug :santa2: :snow_laug :santa2:
  • I wouldn't ever consider it, giving up my dog would be like giving away my child (as drastic as that sounds). He's part of my family and he's going no where without me!

It makes me so angry when people are so easy to give up their pets because they can't have them in their rented home, accept your responsibility and MOVE!
