the local rescue i support has alot of the 'tougher' looking dogs in - off the top of my head i think i counted 4 staffs, one boxer a mastiff and a few staffy Xs on its pages with only abotu 5 being different crossbreeds or smaller mongrel terrier things.

It is sad that so many beautiful animals are PTS because incompetent owners just abandon them willy nilly. I am tryign to convince bf to let me become a fosterer for a local rescue but eh said no because we are in a flat and we already have a terrier but i have told him that even small dogs need loving and Bruno is friendly with other dogs (well there was one he didnt take too and it had ot be the mother in laws didnt it!) but even now if they are seperated at her hosue (she has two gardens that are adjoining but one is a dog garden and the other a kids garden but a dog is placed in each when bruno stays with them and they get on ok and ignore each otehr they jsut cant be together in the house.

Good for your but of course there are other ways you can help the local charities be it dog walking or actually giving time and helping out at the kennels
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • That just makes me so mad! We are desperate to rehome a young dog/puppy that's small to mid sized but have been turned away from charities because we have a 14 month daughter and work. She's brilliant with our cat and other animals she comes into contact with.

Pets are part of the family and I would rather cut off my own arm than just DUMP them!
  • and staffies make wonderful family dogs!!!
  • Would also like to echoe what has already been said about staffies!!! they are in general a really balanced and well behaved breed. Our xstaffie came from the rspca december two years ago (no not a xmas present!!) about two weeks after, when we had all fallen in love with her and she'd settled in well, the tragedy of Ellie Lawrence happened. It made me very nervous as we could not be sure of what our staffie was crossed with (we now think that it is indeed a pit bull). We have 4 kids, the youngest at the time was only 3. On speaking to my friend,(who works for the rspca) she said that if we had any doubt about her we should bring her back whilst she was a puppy as they have a great deal of difficuly in re-homing older staffies. After much discussion we decided that we couldn,t part with her and that under no circumstances were the two younger children would be left alone with her. Two years on we have the most pleasant dog anyone could hope for.

The events that followed Ellie Lawrencen meant that staffs were being abondened and left for dead. My friend said the rspca were receiving 5 staffs, x staffs a day, and they simply couldn't cope. Suppose what i'm trying to say is punish the creed not the breed. I would say to anyone thinking of homing a rescue dog to consider staffies, the are known as the nanny dog, great with kids and extremely loyal. Just to add that my other dog is a jack russel terror, i mean terrior!!!! Okay down of my soap box now.......
Sometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p
  • Look who I spotted on the oldies website - this is the pair I found!!!

Bless them, a rescue down south (Hampshire) offered them a place and they are now looking for a home for them, hopefully together - after seeing the girl look so distressed when she was seperated from her pal when I found them I really do hope they go together...

.... if ever two dogs loved each other, these two do!

  • If you know of anyone who has a bare spot in front of their fire that would be enhanced by these two lolling around, then please do pass the dogs details on - I think they would be lovely steady dogs for a first time dog owner, or retired person.

aw, if i could i would, but my OH is allergic and my home and lifestyle isn't suitable. breaks my heart when oldies get the heave-ho, just when they need to just chill out and spend their final years in a safe, warm loving home.
