  • Oh I want those two so badly, I've been lusting after getting a dog (could be persuaded to two!) again. What a shame my working hours and lifestyle just wouldn't be fair on them.

(on a cynical note, look how easy it was for me to look at my circumstances both present and future, and say that - why can't other people do the same!?)

    I can't believe this !!!

ANIMALS ARE NOT FASHION ACCESSORIES OR STATUS SYMBOLS !!!
    GRRRRRRRR ..... HUMANS

Whilst it is not the most settled of lives for the dogs I'm sure they adapt to it (and if they don't they won't be useful to the scheme so would presumably be rehomed somewhere more suitable), and I would much rather people rented a dog and gave it love and attention for a couple of days a week rather than bought and later dumped.
  • I am really relieved these dogs are safe and together -since I found them and handed them in I had been wondering if they were ok, they have been on my mind as they were such sweet oldies.

Sadly, it says they were at risk of being PTS before they were moved so obviously the kennels they went to are struggling to contain the number of dogs they are getting in, which is apparently now three times as many dogs as usual.

I spotted them by chance yesterday when looking at the oldies club website and I really hope they get a comfy fireside to snooze by - they are quiet gentle dogs and would not ask for much.

A home together, with a warm bed and a little walk everyday and they would be more than happy.

(although I am not sure I like the names they have been given - Cagney and Lacey - one of them is a boy doggy... well, more of an old man doggy - if they were mine I would call them Derby and Joan - or Phyllis and Percy, cos they are such a sweet little old couple!)

Heehee!!! I love it when I find out that dogs I've heard about end up being promoted by the OC :) I'd rather they didn't have to! But at least I know that from there it is FAR more likely they will find a good home and sooner rather than later... :)

FC you might wanna drop the OC and the rescue a note and explain how you found them... people love hearing stories about how the dogs ended up in need of a new home like that and the more heart wrentching the more likely someone will think that THEY should be the ones to give them their final years in comfort :)

Ok, cool, I emailed the lady who is looking after them and asked whether it was the dogs I found, as they have travelled so far south - It looked like them but I wondered if it was just a coincidence.

Apparently it is them and they were offered a place in Hampshire as they were at risk of being PTS. I will email the oldies club and see if I have any nfo that could help them!

    thanks MrsT
  • People! Disgusting creatures, I'd give up anything, ANYTHING so I could keep my pets. I give up alot of things now so i can keep my babies, they're important to me. I cant imagine being without my pets, they bring me so much joy and comfort.

I'm not sure i could just take the dogs to a shelter if i found one abandoned, i think first to the vets to check for a microchip then some posters and advertisments, then I'd probably keep it! But i am a tad soppy when it comes to animals.

And my fiancee knows he comes second to my pets ;) haha, to be honest he's just as bad as me for them :P

I have found five this last year or so, I am always tempted to keep them, but I have to be realistic!!!

I did put 'dogs found' cards in shop windows within a five mile radius of where I found them and my own mobile number, as I didnt want people to be put off ringing if they knew they were with the dog warden and couldnt get there to pick them up or afford the release fee or something - I would probably have helped them get them back for the dogs sake.
  • My dads friend took two abandoned dogs home from Streatham common this weekend, she was sure they were abandoned when they were still milling around in the afternoon - she'd seen them in the morning. She's in touch with rescue organisations now as she already has 3 dogs and is 80 years old herself, so enough on her plate!

We lost our Bassett this summer, heart breaking. Not sure I'd buy a pedigree again, she suffered badly with her skin, and then I found out, so did her mother! Why on earth breed her then!

I'd love a dachshund cross! Also, I've never had a cat, but a friend rescued a norwegian forest cat - adorable!
