viewing figures have probably gone up initially because of recent events. They will go down just as quickly when the media finds more interesting bad news to report on and people forget about financial matters.

To think I actually paid for my TV licence renewal this morning ... Doh! Unless they buck their ideas up, they can whistle for my licence fee next year.

They won't whistle. They'll just send round the thought police in their detector van and pursue you through the courts for every last penny you own!

Back on topic. I always disliked the original team when they had a 'silly moment' but this new format is worse. I particularly hate the 'Come On Down' bit with the daily guest.

Unfortunately 'princess loki', I've tried watching Martin's programme but it also is just a glitzy gameshow.

Apparently, Capita, who have the contract for TV licencing, don't have any working detector vans. Nor do they have any legal rights to enter your property to check if you have a TV capable of receiving a TV signal. It's all just bluff and bluster. Wishing I hadn't paid them now.

Ditto. I thought Adam and Adrian made an excellent team.

I dislike it very much too. Adam is doing something on the Today programme about the stock market I think. Paddy has a couple of progs on Radio 4 as a presenter and always sounds very serious. The last I saw of the new lead man in the old format he was in the rain somewhere reporting - what a comedown for him. The only time I see Adrian now is in the programme after The Apprentice on 2. Must say that Rachel's accent grated on me too. I thought she was trying to improve it but the twang is awful.

.... What I do not understand is why the reporters and guests have to sit grinning like fools at the back of the set for the whole half hour. The cheap tables they are perched at look like they were stolen from outside a sandwich shop. Instructing the main guest to walk a few paces across the studio is a bizarre waste of 20 seconds of each edition.

I couldn't agree more!...and whilst scanning the "green room/bedsit" yesterday I noticed Rachel from Norn Irn...but she then didn't appear*.
I know it's live(-ish) but I wasn't aware anything had overrun. Why was she there?

    * hang on, I was watching on Sky+ so maybe I just zapped through her. :o

Is it just my imagination or do they spend a lot of time talking about nothing? Or am I so disinterested that I have fallen asleep?
  • I'm not in a position to watch WL anymore, but this new format sounds really awful. It's like the daily politics just ain't what it used to be too.

I used to watch working lunch regularly. I was sorry when Adrian Chiles left but Adam Shaw did a good job replacing him. When I saw the new format, I watched for a couple of minutes then switched off. Why do they have to change a great format just for the sake of it. I like Declan by the way, I feel I could mother him, he is so cuddly.

I still like Adrian Chiles but I do not like or watch the One Show. He is better on Match of the Day.

You can't blame these presenters though for wanting to further their careers in any way they can. If people offer them big bucks, they are going to take it.
