Sorry you are dreaming, this simply is NOT what happens in a large Supermarket cash office, you have got to be joking my friend. :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Nice try though.

That was exactly my thoughts they are not going to spend hours trying to match up hundreds of coupons to rolls amd rolls of till rolls. What a load of rubbish. I also worked at Asda until recently.

Why not do what I do with reduced/voucher items if you want to use vouchers: I put them all together on the conveyor belt at the end of the rest of my shopping (I even put them separately in the trolley or basket so its easier to do if needs be), then if the cashier queries whether you have bought the item or not (or in the case of reduced items, put it through at full price  ) you don't have to go digging through all your shopping to prove it, in theory its there at the top of the trolley or in one bag ;) I've caught many an item that's been reduced but gone through at the wrong price this way ;) You're working with the staff which most will appreciate, you still "profit" (in theory) and it won't be so embarrassing then. Just my tuppence worth. :D

I have just heard back from Asda and they say their policy has changed to simplify the use. They will now only take coupons if you buy the product stated on the coupon. They say this will be across their stores. I said I felt this was a bad time to be doing this to their customer, especially as both them and Tesco made a big thing out of taking the coupons in the first place. And that they did this to try and get each others business, now they have it and people are find it hard with the credit crunch they are taking it away.

They said they were sorry but this was their new policy and that there was nothing that could be done. I think the fact that they were all saying this to us before just to get our custom and have now changed it will just make people shop around more. These coupons helped save a few pennies and if I now see other shops doing better deals I will go there.
Thanks for any help and advice given

I was behind someone in the checkout queue at Asda today and they used loads of coupons, I told the checkout operator that I had heard that they were stopping the use of them unless the product was purchased. She said they had not been told anything about it.
  • today at asdas handed over 3 x 25p of mocs - shopping came to £30ish, SA called over supervisor who said they could only take coupons for products purchased BUT as a goodwill gesture she would accept them !

so the policy is no they won't take them, but catch a supervisor in a good mood, with the sun shining and who knows !

I hate inconsistency, either they take them or not

On Friday in Asda Coventry, I had ALL my internet coupons rejected, even where I had bought the product, so I emailed Asda and this was their reply:-

    Manufactures Coupons
We accept money off coupons. You don't even have to buy the product
shown on the coupon. As long as we stock it you can use your coupon
    against anything in the store.
Please note this doesn't apply to cigarettes and lottery

    Internet Coupons
We accept Internet Coupons under the same stringent conditions as old
    style manufacturers' coupons:
1 That they are in date
    2. They are not specific to different retailers (non Asda)
    3. We stock the product

One temporary rule until we decide a more comprehensive policy is-
Only 1 internet coupon per product item in any single transaction -
Unless the customer actually buys the product and in multiples that
reflect the number of coupons tendered.

I've printed off the email and will be taking it into the store this week!

If you could scan it in and upload it, the rest of us could probably make use of that.

I don’t know if its a London thing but nearly every supermarket I go to now refuses to take coupons for products unless you are buying them.

And even then some of them won’t let you use multiple coupons even if you are purchasing the Product (Asda in Beckon) or, for that matter, use internet ones (Sainsbury in Galleons Reach – “we can’t take this, you just printed it off…”).

If you are genuinely upset by this new policy vote with your money and go do your shopping elsewhere. Hit them where it hurts in their bank accounts. It only takes a few people to change their weekly habits to make an impact on takings.

And if you really do have no other alternative supermarket in town to shop, how about knocking up some leaflets and handing them out to customers as they enter the store. If you feel that would be embarrasing wear a sublte disguise (some dark glasses etc), a scarf etc.
And if they move you because you are on "private land", setup a pitch just outside the store at the entrance with a big placard. Again, wear a disguise of some sort if you feel embarrased.

I know its a little extreme, but big stores hate bad publicity and this would likely get a stupid policy like this reversed, if only at your individual store.

Here is the email I got from them. It changes from the 1st Nov my store told me.

    Thank you for your message.
    Dear Miss
    Thank you for your email
I can confirm our coupon policy has changed. The changes that have been made are as follows: -

    * We will accept all manufacturers' coupons (including internet coupons) in line with the terms and conditions of each coupon.

    * There is no limit to the number of coupons that can be used however store discretion has to be used.

    * Coupons accepted at our self scan checkouts will require host authorisation.

    * Competitor coupons will only be accepted if stores have been instructed by our Marketing team.

    * Also if you use a product coupon you DO need to buy the product which is stated on the coupon.

Thanks again and I hope this helps you with your query, if there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

    Kind Regards

This is obviously being introduced just before the Christmas period when ASDA know people will spend anyway.
If people are not happy they can shop elsewhere such as Tesco, who still take coupons.
I think Asda are taking a chance here because of the recent surge in shoppers going to Aldi,Netto and Lidl.

  • hi everyone
i actually came on here to see if the coupon dilemma had reached the boards and obviously it has lol
the reason and its no excuse that you get contradicting advise form the girls on the checkouts its because they do not read their folders that are supplied under each checkout, as you are all aware when a colleague is taking over on a new shift, one signs off and one signs on sometimes we are just so busy that they do not have the opportunity to start reading a folder and whilst this is no excuse this in reality is what happens, i wonder how many of you would patiently stand there whilst the colleague tries to catch up on the week's events!! i myself work wed, Thu fri and sat and often don't get a chance til later in the week, again im not making excuses. we don't start earlier than our shift if we start at 9am its into the building off with the coat clock on and straight on a till! BUT we have been told about the coupons its again down to getting the message out there, i personally put it down to the minority abusing the system, we have in our store a recognised select few customers whom we know abuse the system and its a real shame, but as for kicking off and dumping your shopping i wonder how you would feel sat there taking abuse off a customer for a matter that isn't your own personal fault, its not our fault, please direct your anger to the top not at the checkout girl, i have worked for ASDA for over 13 yrs and have often come across girls in the locker rooms crying because a customer has been abusive towards them, again if it was your daughter would you let it happen?? the other point that upsets me is when you DUMP your shopping who do you think puts it back the ASDA chairman??? no the girl who should be sat on the checkout doing her job and reading her folder!!!!

sorry to rant but it really upsets me when a company changes its policies for whatever reason its the wrong people that get it in the neck, we are all here to do a job and earn a decent living so next time something changes ask yourself what should you realistically be doing to try and put it right?

i realise this has opened up a whole line of different points of view but eventually every ASDA checkout colleague will be aware of the coupon change of usage it quite simply is if you havent bought it then don't try to use the coupon!

**takes a breath then runs and hides lol**
