I use mine in Tesco and was told last time I tried that they are also clamping down on this. So I have a handbag full of useless coupons0

Its been coming for a while this,
People have abused the coupon system so stores are starting to clamp down.
As people have said on here before only get the coupons that mean something to you then you can spend them.0 -
I agree that the shops are doing this, why should people be able to use money off vouchers for something they are not buying?
Sorry to sound like a party pooper but money off certain products should only be used if you are buying those particular products.
Surely the companies reimburse the stores ? ie if you buy Andrex loo rolls and use a airwick voucher, why should airwick pay when its not there product.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. I think the way it works is that a store like Asda or Tesco would sell a large amount of the Airwick product (or whatever the voucher was for) so could claim the money back from the company even if you personally didn't buy it. Hundreds of other people will have bought it and airwick don't have to know who the voucher came from.
I've only been doing it because a friend who used to work for Tesco said it was their policy to accept vouchers regardless of whether you have bought it, and I have also asked at the checkout if it's allowed. I wouldn't try and do it dishonestly.0 -
i think you should only be able to use it if you buy it that way people who want the voucher and will use the voucher get the chance to get one !:T I love MSE ! :j0

The asda in Huntly Aberdeenshire has signs up beside the self checkoutsVampires Rock :eek:0

Lets not forget that it was the shops that started this by posting notices up saying as an example.
Tescos " We will take Morrison coupons that have been published in the NOTW offering a 5.00 discount on a 30.00 spend in Morrisons"
Farmfoods: " We will take Iceland coupon offers offering 5.00 off a 25.00 spend in Iceland"
It was the supermarkets who encouraged people to use vouchers off other products because all the supermarkets were interested in was total sales volume.
Perhaps now a manufacturer(s) has threatened to take Legal action over the practice. :think:0 -
We`ve heard all this before but they still keep taking them.
Can`t see what the problem is anyway, they get refunded by the manufacturers.
The very same manufacturers that they continually put pressure on to keep their prices down and all their BOGOF offers.0 -

I was told by checkout girl in Tesco that they were being told off for doing it so she wouldn't accept them. Don't know if this is official Tesco policy or just that store (or just a jobsworth checkout assistant!) so will try again another time. It just doesn't seem as easy to get away with as it once was.
If the store's policy is to allow this practice then I don't have an issue with whether it's 'fair' or not. I don't think Tesco's domination of corner shops in our area is exactly fair either - we have had a petition signed by thousands of residents and their application has been turned down by the council but they're still appealing so why shouldn't we exploit their loopholes etc to get a bit back? No one is losing out as the manufacturers wouldn't print the coupons if they weren't prepared for them to be used.0
