i e mailed asda customer services to ask them about their coupon policy and thought you would like to see their reply.
    Thanks for getting in touch.

Our current policy regarding Coupons is as follows:

    Internet Coupons
We accept Internet Coupons under the same stringent conditions as old
    style manufacturers' coupons:
1 That they are in date
    2. They are not specific to different retailers (non Asda)
    3. We stock the product

One temporary rule until we decide a more comprehensive policy is-
Only 1 internet coupon per product item in any single transaction -
Unless the customer actually buys the product and in multiples that
reflect the number of coupons tendered.

    Asylum Seeker Vouchers
We do accept asylum seeker vouchers and they can be used to purchase
    anything in store.

    Manufactures Coupons
We accept money off coupons. You don't even have to buy the product
shown on the coupon. As long as we stock it you can use your coupon
    against anything in the store.
Please note this doesn't apply to cigarettes and lottery
    Branded Vouchers
If you have a voucher for a set amount from a branded company you can
spend it on any product in our stores just as long as we stock that
    brand.
For example you may have a £10 Kellogg's voucher. We stock Kellogg's
products so you can buy anything you want with your Kellogg's voucher
even if the product you want isn't made by Kellogg's.
We'd like you to spend the full amount of the voucher but it's up to
you, if you would like change from your voucher then that's no problem
    at all.

    ASDA's Own Coupons
ASDA coupons (ones that show our name, often are found in the ASDA
Magazine) can only be redeemed if you have actually bought the product
    shown on the coupon.

    Number of Coupons per Transaction
There's no limit on the amount of coupons you can use per transaction
unless it is stated on the coupon.

    Milk Tokens
Milk token have now been replaced by the healthy start vouchers.

    Healthy Start Vouchers
Children in low income families, pregnant women and breastfeeding
mothers may receive vouchers under the healthy start government
initiative. These vouchers can be redeemed on the following:
    * Milk (plain cows milk either whole, semi, semi skimmed milk),
    pasteurised, sterilised and long life.
    * Infant formula milk that is based on cows milk and states on the
packaging that can be used from birth
    * Fresh fruit and vegetables (excludes pre cooked, frozen, dried or
    canned fruit and vegetables)

    Luncheon Vouchers
We accept luncheon vouchers as payment, or part payment.
We don't give change on luncheon vouchers.
We don't accept luncheon vouchers as payment for alcohol products alone.

All stores should comply with these policies, if they do not. Please do
not hesitate to call Head Office on 0845 300 1111 (Option 5).

For a complete list of policies, please visit

If you need any extra help, please let us know.

    Kind Regards

    ASDA Service Team

Hiya I work as an asda checkout operator and have not been advised of any changes in the coupon policy for the near future, although they are likely to tell me the day it changes in about 10 secs as I'm jumping on a till. At the minute I'm happy to take anyones coupons so long as they scan, I use coupons for my shopping too although only when I've bought the item but thats my choice.
  • I went to Asda (Gloucester) last night; the nice lady at the till said that they would stop taking the coupons at the end of the month (they would still take them, if you buy the product). She said it was because people took the pee with out-of-date coupons or bringing in far more than 10% of their shopping bill etc and it was too much of a nightmare for the checkout staff. However she very kindly let me use the rest of my remaining coupons up (usually, I'd only do a couple at a time).

It is a huge shame that a few bad apples ruined it for everybody else. That £1 or £2 a week off my £40 - £50 shopping bill was very welcome in an already competitive priced supermarket. Oh well.

My Asda told me they are allowed to use coupons up to 10% of the shopping bill. The only ones that you have to buy the items are the Asda ones from their mag.
Thanks for any help and advice given

My local asda store stopped accepting money off vouchers over a year ago, if you hadnt purchased the product.

None of the new sales assistants who now work there knew anything about accepting them if you hadnt bought the product and looked at me daft. One of them who had worked there for ages was quite rude to me, a proper jobsworth who snapped my head off. She told me you could no longer use the coupons that way and it had finished.

THat is strange, i read the asda policy above now. Asda refuse to accept the item (airwick crystalair) which i have £2 Airwick coupon manufactur, they refuse and cause a lot of embrassesmnent and force me to pay the item without £2 off my bill. It is at SELF CHECK OUT! Because they have seal the coupon slot, also last week the coupon slot was unseal but still they open the coupon slot and check the voucher and unpack my bag, and refuse because the item did not match the voucher mention. but when i said oh, okay i don;t want it, the staff ignored and put the coupon back in slot without return to me, (so they make profit of extra £2!!!) Shame asda Bury Pilsworth

just went to asda as usual and handed over my coupons as usual.

girl on till says we can't accept these anymore!!

she is correct in that she showed me the official national asda policy/letter in her folder.

it says that they will no longer accept coupons unless you have bought the item from 03/11/09.

i have just phoned asda head office and am waiting for a response - i have asked to know what their change of policy is based upon. unless there has been a problem with the manufacturers, what a time to stop shoppers getting 10% off their shopping?!

p.s. she took mine today as policy doesn't come into force until 3rd november - better use up all my coupons before then.
