Very well put JJ.
My misses works in a building society and some of the stories she tells me about Joe Public lead me to believe I'd last no more than a day doing her job.
I like to use as many coupons as I can and if I am peed off by a Supervisor I have been known to give it the 'better put it back' approach. I would never though argue with a cashier as I appreciate you have little say.0 -
I'm retired now but was in business for 30years...we took coupons for money off if the product was purchased, but that was not recorded seperately just deducted at the end of the sale as part payment just like they do in supermarkets...all we did was total up the coupons every few weeks enter them on a form and send them off to the handling house. Then we would receive a cheque for the amount claimed plus a handling fee...so the supermarkets do make money from taking coupons, and they get the amount deducted for the actual moc back...it's definitely in their interest to take them.Although it was a tedious task for us for small amounts , it must be a huge sum for Tesco/Asda etc and well worth doing
Did you ever have any coupons returned to you or queried as "redemption refused"?
Also, anyone hear ever worked in the handling house? I'd love to know what happens to all those bits of paper - do they get sent on to the manufacturer? Or destroyed when processed? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If tesco stopped taking them I'd shop at aldi/lidl. I used to think they were "cheap" shops, but apparently their fruit and veg is lovely and a fraction of the price of tesco/asda, much like many other lines.
I am sure many other people would do the same and tesco would lose out big time. I am unsure of asda's couponing fraternity but maybe they will see the difference when their customers go elsewhere too? I do hope so.
The thing is, the bubble will burst one day. Enjoy while you still can!I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
Just thought I'd let you know was doing my weekly shop today at Asda, and they were checking all coupons to see if the item was brought. They were tell customers that the change come in on the 3rd Nov and this was their policy from now on. I had a cereal coupon but as it said everything but rice crispies they would not take it.
They were really checking the coupons at my store but don't know if all stores will be as harsh. Thanks for any help and advice given

I never shop in Asda but after buying one of the coffee machines that the latest Asda mag has coupons for a free box of coffee pods I drove the 50 mile round trip with the coupons I had been sent by a friend who lives near by and has collected a few for me.
I had a right jobs worth on the till. First of all she said I had to buy the box in the picture, then she said I could only use 3 vouchers.
The vouchers clearly stated any coffee from the range and 1 voucher per box. She made me feel like a criminal with my vouchers.
She eventually called over a supervisor, who thankfully put her in her place as said what I had and what I was doing was quite correct and basically what was her problem.
I wish checkout people would not take a customers voucher usage as if it was them paying for the goods themselves.0
