Right I need some sensible advice ladies and gents:)DD's been to view a studio flat, she loves everything about it except there's no heating at all, not even a fire!!!Any suggestions for the cheapest electric heaters avaiable that pump out the most heat?
It's very small but ideal for her and the baby for a while, and in a nice area near me so she is deffo interested but doesn't want to freeze:eek:

Hi Candy
No idea about electric heaters, but what about those portable calor gas heaters. They give off a good amount of heat, and she would know exactly what it was costing as she would have to buy the gas bottles as she needed themYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Oh Dear God, sorry Charlies Mum but never use one of those, they give out twice as much condensation as the liquid gas used, the place would be so damp, also they are V. dangerous considering a small place, naked flame and liquid gas and not so easy to move.
I would reccomend an oil filled heater, like a radiator which has a thermostatic dial so it can tick over on low or turn it up for more heat. You just plug into a socket.
Sorry, CM0 -

I'll have a go at answering - one of those little dimplex heaters, but one with a 24 hour timer. Argos do them. I used to have a studio flat, and it was fine. The timer is because it's nice to be able to set it for 15 minutes before you get up to take the chill off the place, just like central heating.

My cousin prefers the oil filled radiators, and they come with timers now too
linky
Not sure which would be the cheapest to run - the oil filled one might hold the heat longer? I know the dimplex is definitely enough to heat a studio flat though.0 -

Well peeps I did it !!!!!!!!!!! I spent the whole day at work and didn't give in to temptation of toast (50p for 2 slices:() snacks, sandwiches or the vending machine, WOO HOO !! this has been a huge downfall for me for soooo long and i did it
I do however need to work on healthy lunches that are quick and easy, I swear to god i have put half a stone on since the wispa bar made appearence in the local shop!
I'm taking one o/s day at a time learning new things every day but feel like I acheived loads today as it's my first ever NSD in my life ...my lord how bad is that but it does feel good.
Hope your all ok and enjoying your evening.DFW AND OS'ER IN TRAINING!!:D
Oh and bump due 3rd Dec 09' mummy to be for the first time :T0 -
Hi all. Pippa, the toe only hurts when I touch it now so it's much better, thanks!
I used to use Calor gas fires years ago and, while they are great for saving money on heating, I did used to worry about safety. I would endorse the other suggestions about going for oil-filled radiators with thermostats.
Well, we had lovely spaghetti bolognese using half the usual amount of meat and adding red lentils and it was just as delicious so that's a saving on the meat. I shall be adding lentils to everything I can at the moment. Tomorrow, we're having sausagemeat but I haven't decided exactly what to do with it yet.
I've just had a lovely bath and DH is in it now, somehow I don't fancy the bath water when he's been in it! Anyway, I like it much hotter than he does so, by the time he gets in, it's cooled down. It saves water anyway!
I'm going to watch Despatches while I'm recording Bruce Parry going up the Amazon so see you later.

Hi Candy, heater wise, I would go for oil, whilst you shouldn't really cover any of them, I think oil would be safer.
With several of the heaters now, you can get brackets to wall mount them, although Landlord might not be happy with holes in the walls.
Argos do have quite a good range and reasonably priced.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Thanks everyone, I had thought oil filled radiators, and there's one the same as Crankys link with a fan heater on it too:D
She's set her heart on it so yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee:j :j :j
