  • All you people who say the OP shouldn't get DLA because she is fat.

    A. We don't know why she is fat. A friend of mine put on about five stone, purely to do with her medication.

B: Even it is was self-inflicted -what about other 'self-inflicted' injuries? Should a heavy smoker not have their emphysema treated? What about scuba divers- should they not be treated for anything to do with middle ear problems? Should a ballroom dancer not be treated for a sprained ankle?

You can request a home visit to assist in the completion of the forms
call 08457 12 34 56, make the request and a trained visiting officer should come to see you. They'll make sure that all the relevant details are included in your application, perhaps things you might not have considered important. They should also be able to advise you on the impact (if any) on other benefits in payment.
As for asking people on here to speculate on whether you'd be awarded DLA, in my experience, is pretty much pointless. I've filled in AA & DLA forms for people, some of whom I was certain would be entitled and others where my personal opinion was they didn't have a cat in hell's chance, but I'm not allowed to let my personal opinion enter into it. If the customer wants to apply, I'm allowed to give general advice but the decision is theirs whether to apply or not. Anyway, some of the people who I thought wouldn't get it, got it first time (and in some cases got the highest rate possible), and some of the ones I thought were definitely going to get it, I've had to fight tooth and nail to get it for them.
It is completely up to the Decision Maker, so my only advice is that you get help to fill in the form, answer all the relevant questions in as much details as possible, as the Decision Maker is not a medical professional and will need a clear picture of how your conditions affect you - remember, the Decision Maker doesn't get to meet you. If the Decision Maker turns you down, you can request that your claim be reconsidered by another Decision Maker (must be requested within 1 month of the original decision). If still not successful, you can appeal (again this must be requested within one month of the 2nd decision)
Hope this is of some help

Just to point out that if you appeal it automatically goes for reconsideration as part of the appeals process, and decisions are rarely changed following a reconsideration,so I always advise going straight for appeal, but as part of that request a statement of reasons, this then gives you 6 instead of 4 weeks to return the appeal forms, also wherever possible request an oral not written hearing, gives you far greater chance of success

Maybe if you'd had an education you would be able to write properly!

Did you really go to all the effort of signing up just to make this disgusting post, or is it more a case of being too cowardly to post under your usual username

this person is spending my hard earned taxes. everyweek i pay £70 of my wages to keep this waster eating. then he has the audacity(yes i am educated ) to complain of being overweight and needing more of my money. the country is facing a financial crisis and we are worried about giving more money to people who do not want to fend for themselves. bring back the american 5 year deal (yes more education in reply to previous post)and make spongers work for their benefits. the only reason i am being ridiculed is because previous reply to my posts are from people who are only reading this looking for hints on how to get dla themselves. here is a piece of advice for them , if you are genuine you will get it if not get a job. being fat(politically incorrect , i know) is not grounds for getting DLA.......................

We cannot "bring back" the American 5 year deal as we have never had it. Maybe you should educate yourself further as the Welfare reform in America has been a massive failure.

healy how much of your wages go on taxes every week. i think that you must be another sponger as you protest to much

That is none of your business. I have never had a chip on my shoulder about paying taxes, it is a fact of life. I do not see how pointing out your stupidity is protesting.
  • I for one have never claimed a State Benefit in my life apart from Child Benefit which everyone with a child gets. I am now in my late 50s and early retired, and still not claiming any State benefits. I have paid plenty of tax and NI in my time and if I were entitled to any benefits I would not hesitate to claim them.

I do not mind helping people get what they are entitled to. No-one on here would help a blatant fraudster.

And I would also like to point out the forum owner's request about this board. If you wish to discuss benefits policy, it must be on the Discussion Board, not the Benefits board.

  • O dear I realy didnt want to contribute to this thread again.... (embarrassed)...... I had made my views clear in my earlier posts and admit I had been a bit harsh with my words which I do apologise for and I am a little embarrassed now when I read back on them (goes red in face). I know some people cant help it and are overweight due to steroids or a condition such as pra willie syndrome or similar, I wasnt talking about this catorgory I was talking about the obese and lazy people who self inflict and do nothing about their situation. We all know they do exsist but I was wrong to judge this person as one of them I shouldnt have done that and should have made it clear what I was trying to say which I didnt.Sorry to the poster Iv learnt my lesson......
