woohoo!! came home to a cheque for £601!! By the way sent my form in on 27th jan, recorded delivery, so took about 6 weeks. So don't despair, good luck and a big thank you to all of you0

 Not happy, received a letter today stating that this has already been claimed in the self assessment form for that year however when both me and my partner called in early January we were told we hadn't claimed. Anyone else experienced this?0

I am afraid so legra77. If you check your & the children's fathers P60's for the tax year 2002/2003 you might find you have already had it. If one of your tax codes ends something like 702H then you received it at the time that will make you feel better.
I am the father chrissyann lol. Thanks for reply though.0 -
I have been waiting since the middle of December, every time I ring they say they can't tell me if they have received my form or not and just keep saying if I havent heard anything by April to ring them.....0

This has been a complete waste of time.... I was informed on the television that this was not means tested, therefore completed the form - went to the tax office put in my claim. phoned to make sure they had received it. did a search the other day and found this site and read the post about every £3 over the 40% tax bracket you lose £2 and that rang a bell reminding me of why I didn't bother with it back then.
perhaps mr o'lewis should have made it clear that it is means tested instead of saying it is not means tested.
got my letter through yesterday stating I had earnt too much, shame really no holiday this year I was hoping for a £200 to buy the family a weekend in dorset.
on another dig about saving money, it only actually helps the individual getting the best deals - what this economy needs is people spending money on cards and paying interest to keep the banks running and staff employed, they do need to buy items with warranties so that the sales staff get their bonuses and spend money elsewhere. if we all hide it under our matresses and only get something for nothing, then sooner or later there will only be nothing for nothing.0 -

Hi,
Our reply stated we've already had our allowance for 02/03 - however my husband's tax code was 461L for the year and I thought that indicated we hadn't received it. Can anyone shed any light?
ThanksWhy choose to be right instead of happy when there is no way to be right? :cheesy:0 -
woodpecker: Were you working ay the time, and if so what was your tax code? Were either of you under self assessment as well for any reason? Also where did you see the 461L code? If it was a notice of coding then a subsequent one might have been issued. If it's on a P60 & you weren't working & no one was under SA then write in telling them you don't agree & send the P60 as evidence.0

Who do you work for?
If you work for certain employers such as MOD, Civil Service, Police etc for security reasons your records can only be accessed by the staff in the Tax office which deals with your employer. No-one in any other office or contact centre can access your records. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I pay tax at the higher rate and applied for a rebate on the basis of all the hype about it not being means tested. Had a reply from the tax office saying that "due to my level of income in the year ended 5 April 2003 that I do not qualify for the Children's Tax Credit". Called them & they said that I had been misinformed by the media!0
