I have just e-mailed the BBC programme Working Lunch and would suggest that others could do so to. I told them what the problem is and referred them to this Forum/Thread

    Oh I see.I read

"Also, the ombudsman only has there normal call centre number (which they use in case of any dispute) - I really want a number for their exec office, as they refuse to put me through."

as meaning something different .:-) but I now see what you meant .

I find it unlikely that the FOS only has a Call Centre number ...don't believe it for a minute .

I once got a call about unusual activity on my card and had to call Cap1 back to verify who theye were but of course didn't keep the number .Did you try the other numbers on the reverse of your card .

Ok, last update for today (unless I get the money of course).

Spoke with someone in Nottingham head office. Apparently everybody who has a duplicate payment has had there money returned, i.e. sent from Capital One, so it's currently in the banking system. However, they did say it will be in my account by midnight tonight.

The first payment I received back was because they are processing them in batches.

    So, watch this space...

  • Hey guys,

Does anyone have a number for their Nottingham head office?
  • Funnily enough, just had the following secure message back from them:-

Thank you for contacting us about a payment that you've sent us, which we've not added to your account. I can confirm that we had experienced some system issue while processing payments. I'm sorry for any inconvenience that we've caused you. Also, I can confirm that we've already arranged to send a payment of £1,814.72 back to your bank account and it should be in your account latest by 10 October 2008. We'll also refund any interest or default sum which will be added to your account due to this error. I've also refunded £10 on your account to cover your postal charges and phone charges. I hope that you're happy with the steps I've taken to resolve this. Once again, I'm sorry for our error. If you need any other help, please call us on 08458 400 400*. We're here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (*Typical call charge from a BT landline is 7p connection fee plus up to 2p per minute. Calls from other networks and mobiles may be higher. Calls may be recorded/monitored for training purposes.)

However as of 3pm today, no payment in my account and no £10 showing in my account! Also it looks as if they are sending my payment back to my bank account, so does anyone know how I can actually pay them in time fro Friday?

Apologies if I am repeating anything someone else has said.

My partner has a Capital One Card & we pay it off through their account services but using my debit card as he can't get a debit card. We tried to send a payment with plenty of time before his due date & the website said the payment had failed. I quickly checked my online bank & the money had been taken so after reading this thread we sent Capital One a secure message. They basically replied with send a copy of your bank statement etc & I pointed out that though the balance had reduced the payment was not listed yet. Exasperate at the idea of having to wait forever to get the money back & concerned about missing the due date I called my bank & complained about the problem. They told me they were able to get the payment back even though I had sent it the day before & by 4pm that afternoon my money was back! I then sent a payment to the credit card from my online banking which showed up 2 days later so we just scraped in before the due date.

I think the worse bit about this whole mess is that Capital One continue to allow people to put payments through their website without even a warning that it might get lost! There isn't even a dedicated helpline.

So my advice if you have just put a payment through that says failed but clearly isn't call your bank! It's worth a try.

My £200 was promised (at 9pm last night) back into my bank account by midnight last night - it wasn't. I rang again today, and it WILL be back on Monday. They've had to pay them all by BACS in stead of CHAPS as there were more payments than they thought.

I spoke to a really friendly, helpful, symapthetic manager today (Kyle) who sounded as p1ssed off as me, to be honest. He's credited another £20 to my account, and has said if I use my card int he next month, he'll waive any interest on my next month's statement.
