Hi, my first post on here but I've been following comments made regarding payments taken by Capital One but not added to customer accounts. I have been waiting for £530 to be returned to my current account following 7 online failed attempts over 2 weeks ago.

Each time I phone, the date for this to be sorted gets put back - they are now saying it could be another WEEK due to problems with their bank (HSBC ?). All seems rather odd, although the bloke I spoke to this afternoon seemed genuine. But who knows what info he was being fed by the people above him.

I was told on Friday that the money would be in my account by today latest. The very first time I phoned and started to explain the line mysteriously went dead ! During one conversation I had with an account manager or whatever they said they would put £10 on my account for phone calls. Next time I looked they CHARGED me £10. I was livid ! But this particular issue has been rectified.

I have made no official complaint as yet, but if the money doesn't show I will have to do something. What would be the best thing to do, any ideas ???

A new series of BBC Watchdog starts tonight .I wasn't aware of this but by chance has anyone contacted them put this story to them .Sounds like the sort of thing they'd want to hear .
• Just got off the phone with Cap 1 - still waiting for £150 back to my account. Apparently left Cap 1 through their clearing bank which is HSBC. I'm a reasonable person, I understand problems when they happen, I know life isn't in bacl and white at all times, but what I cannot tolerate is being lied to and fobbed of to the next day to call again and hear a different excuse and another date for when I will get my money. Needless to say, my realtionship with Capital One is very much in the shredder.
• Well I have just spent another 32 minutes on the phone to Capital One, and am still no further forward. Initially I was told that the payment had left Capital One and was on its way to my account. I informed them that I had been told this since Thursday. She then put me on hold for ages, and told me that I should call back if I hadn't received payment in another 3 days! (Bearing in mind I payed on 28th September!)

I then asked her about the letter I was sent from the UK office, which she knew nothing about. I also asked her what bank account they had paid the money into, and she could not tell me. I asked to speak to a manager, only to be told that there were no managers available to talk to customers. She took my details and told me someone would call me back in half an hour, although I think this was a ploy to get me off the phone.

Also I sent the 2nd batch of recorded delivery letters to their UK office today asking them to confirm receipt by phone and, guess what?, nothing.

It looks like I may have no option other than to go to my solicitor.

I sent a brief text to Watchdog during the programme tonight, so hope that helps in some small way to getting the issue noticed.

Just e-mailed this to watchdog@bbc.co.uk

"Are you aware that over the past two-three weeks there has been a serious problem with folk making Debit Card payments to Capital One . Their system was telling folk making payments that " It is not possible to process the payment at this time" when they made an online payment by debit card so naturally they tried again and again . When they checked their bank accounts they found that multiple payments HAD been taken

Capital One took down the facility but then said it was fixed but it broke again immediately afterwards. Since then people who have had such payments taken ( and remember these payments were not credited to their CC account) have had serious trouble getting refunds and cannot get Capital One to give them a straight answer to when they will get refunded .Some folk have "lost" a lot of money and have been put in a difficult position with their bank accounts as they need this money back..... .I was lucky in that they only owe me 2 x £21.23

Please see the thread at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1190499

and try to find a space in next weeks programme and contact Capital One to see what they are playing at by not making these refunds because this is total nonsense what they have done . "
