Capital One is good on the whole, especially if you paid on time, preferably in FULL because of the high APR.... but an absolute nightmare to deal with when you start having problems running with the account. As long you pay the payment at least 5 days before the due date then it is fine.

It is just like another mainstream credit card, but with a HIGH APR so paying in FULL is recommended.

It doesn't necessarily mean you have been declined!

It just means they will have a look at your application. If there is a problem and they want ID or futher information they will write to you. They could still decline you though.

They sent this to my daughter and then sent a letter in the post saying she'd been declined - but that's not to say you'd be atomatically declined if they're doing checks
  • My Classic card credit limit started at £100 and increased to £300 on 4th statement.

I find Capital One a bit weird.

I earn enough I have to pay the higher rate of income tax.
I have had the C1 card for 2 years and am still on the original credit limit of £200  No defaults etc.
Whereas my Lloyds TSB Platinum card has had its limit increased gradually over this period upto £11,500

I guess C1 aren't interested in me as I pay off the balance only days after using it, its not big enough to leave it for long periods if you see what I mean.

I know in this day and age the CC companies are tightening their belts but its a massive contrast between two companies - not a moan (well maybe a little :rotfl: ) but an interesting observation.

An ex had a C1 account, unemployed and they gave her £500 to start with and within 6 months it was at £1,000 and within a year it was £3,500 and moved onto a Gold card!

I got this message when I applied and then a week later got a letter saying " Good news you have been accepted. Please sign the enclosed credit agreement and you card will be with you in 7-10 days"

It has been just over 2 weeks and still no sign of the card or any further communication.

Should I be worried ? I have very little credit history after having a bad credit when i was younger ( 6+ yrs ago )
I am planning to use it as a base to rebuild my credit file. I have a full facility debit card with the bank but they wont give me any other facilities - OD or there own CC with a low limit regardless of earning close to £2k a month and never bounced a DD etc

any ideas or am i just worrying for no reason and it normally takes this long

    Thanks

    Aiden

I had a problem with C1 about 18 months ago about their interest charges

I have a clean credit record and have two other cards which have small balances on them. The C1 card I kept for day to day purchases, it had a £6,500 credit limit but I always paid it off each month.

Unfortunately my dog was taken ill while we were on holiday with him and we ran up a £500 vet bill. I paid it with the C1 card with the intention of repaying it in two monthly instalments as we could recover most of it from insurance.

After paying the first month, I received a letter from C1 saying that they were increasing my interest rate on O/S balances from (about) 13.9% to 29.9%.

I rang them up to find out what the problem was and all they could tell me was it was caused by a re-alignment of their customer base. However, they would retain the 13.9% rate on the existing balance as long as I did not use the card until after it was cleared, after which the 29.9% would apply for future balances. They were not reducing my credit limit.

I did not understand so, feeling somewhat miffed, I told them I would repay the whole balance the next month and I would close the account. Believe it or not, they rang me about a week before the second payment was due to remind me to pay it and that they would then close the account as per my instructions - after receipt of the payment they wrote to me saying the account was closed.

I never understood what their motive was, nor would they give me a credible explanation. I have not had any similar problems with my other card issuers.

Has anyone else received this treatment or know what Capital were up to?

Spoke with Cap1 today and was told my limit will be £200. :j

It's a far cry from the heady days when banks used to throw cc and loans at me, now i am a virtual leper to them. I am 'unclean' with debt. :D

Judging by previous posts, i can look forward to a possible increase to £500 after the 4th statement. Cooool.

Thanks to everyone who contribute to this site. I've learnt so much, especially about repairing damaged credit.

Customer services advised i should receive the card before 31st of this month. This is longer than the 'welcome' letter stated, but ho-hum, such is life.
  • :jwell done mate.....

i have been with them for 13 months, my limit is still 300 though

good news however, because of regular payments i hane now moved to mainstream cards like barclaycard platinum. i am soon going to dump cap 1 after another 12 months of payment history.....:j
