I find Capital One a bit weird.
I earn enough I have to pay the higher rate of income tax.
I have had the C1 card for 2 years and am still on the original credit limit of £200No defaults etc.
Whereas my Lloyds TSB Platinum card has had its limit increased gradually over this period upto £11,500
I guess C1 aren't interested in me as I pay off the balance only days after using it, its not big enough to leave it for long periods if you see what I mean.
I know in this day and age the CC companies are tightening their belts but its a massive contrast between two companies - not a moan (well maybe a little :rotfl: ) but an interesting observation.
An ex had a C1 account, unemployed and they gave her £500 to start with and within 6 months it was at £1,000 and within a year it was £3,500 and moved onto a Gold card!
Have you tried closing the account down and applying for a new one. You might be able to do this over the phone - my OH closed his old classic account and opened a platinum one with one phone call, could be worth a shot.0 -
Just had a shock. Looked at my Capital 1 account and the limit has gone from £500 to £1,100 ... <geez>
Can only presume its cos I've been paying £50 off per month for past 3-4 months0 -
Thanks Debtdestroyer. I'm delighted, i finally feel like i'm making a move in the right direction. :T Rather than bury my head in the sand, i'm taking control and taking responsibility for the financial mess i put myself in.
When i spoke to customer service, the nice lady said i had 'one of the cards that is reviewed'. Maybe you had a Cap1 card that didn't fall into that category. I thought they automatically reviewed all their cards.
Good to know your commitment to repairing your credit has paid off and you can now re-join the 'normal' world and apply for 'proper' credit cards. Nice one. :T Reading your good news has made me even more determined.:D
By the way, i got my pin today, i've already memorised it.:rotfl:
Congrats on the credit increase Cally. Not a bad way to start your weekend!0 -
I just sent them a secure message asking for a credit limit increase. Been stuck on £600 for -phew- must be 9 years. They've said no in the past (and when I apply for another of their cards they say no as I have one already) so we'll see.
I am now using Vanquis but they have no online account management so it's pretty much useless.0 -
I got my card in 2004 when I started uni and had a £200 initial limit. I was always paying the balance off in full but they did not increase my limit so I cancelled the account by the end of 2005.
They asked one of my mates to put a £100 deposit and he got a £250 credit limit. However not having a limit increase in a year, he closed and re-opened to get a £1500 limit - needless to say without any deposit this time!:beer:0 -
hello all, ive had my capital one card since i was 18, im now almost 24 and how many times have they upped my limit? NOT ONCE!! when i needed it they wouldnt do it, its not a bad thing. it means i cant spend what i dont have!0

Got a secure message back telling me no increase would be made. Obviously a copy/paste job as the grammar was perfect.
Decided to give them a phone 0800 9525267 and I got more copy/paste but this time verbally from someone with poor grammar and whose first language wasn't British English. These call centres really are starting to annoy me as they're staffed with people who have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, they speak a type of English but communication is a bit more complicated. Call centres are full of script monkeys anyway (fair enough, keeps people right) but to have them filled with people who have no idea of the UK culture is very tiring.
Anyway, he said "Nobody could decide here" and "Can't do it over the phone" and "My supervisor can't help you" etc etc. All the time not listening (he could hear) to my actual enquiry which was "Why no credit limit increase after 9 years?". So, never got an answer and TBH I don't think they have an answer because Capital One is run on a tight budget and I think these things are rarely looked at by real people. Fair enough, I accept that but I have this horrible feeling that all of us will get this treatment soon when phoning people who have our money and business. We'll have no place to turn. Run for the hills!0 -

Sorry, it's you, who wants an increase, you are asking for their money.
They can decide, whether or not they want to give you any more.
Get a card elsewhere, they might (or might not) give you a higher limit.0 -
Nice bit of editing there.
I am a very good customer and have been for 9 years. The problem is (which you've missed) is there hasn't been a decision by anyone in particular and I can't discuss it with anyone in particular.0
