They told me that if, when we get our bill, we call to say we weren't aware of the increased price THEY WILL NOT CHARGE US THE INCREASED PRICE FOR THAT BILL. ie, there's a way to delay the price hike!

Unfortunately, as I'd already called them to complain they won't let me take advantage of that deal, so I've now switched to Click 6

but good luck to the rest of you :)
Sounds like the best thing to do is bury your head in the sand for a few months until the official notification from BG, then.

Too late for me there, too.

A little knowledge is a dangerous & expensive thing!

ARGH! Annoyingly I only starting switching a few days ago, and had BG on phone yesterday to confirm I wanted to go ahead.

DO you think I can still argue the cheaper rates? I wasn't told about the higher rates and I was asked to waive my 7 day "change my mind" period.
    Paying down the mortgage:
    At 1 October 2011: £226,000
    Currently: £224,499
    Aim: 85% LTV (£212,500)
    Paid £1,500
    Target remaining: 88.89%

I'm in the middle of transferring my electric over from a standard rate on EDF to BG to become a dual fuel package as I already have my gas with them. I think there is probably a few weeks before the transfer is complete, then I'll be on Click 5.

Can anyone confirm that I will then simply be able to switch over to Click 6 if there is a benefit? I'm not on a fixed term tariff!
  • I don't think Eon Online saver v8 has been increased yet, so on the comparison sites is it now coming out lower cost than BG Click 5 and 6?
V8 and C5 were almost the same when I last checked prior to yesterday's BG Click increases (when you take the discounts off the bottom line).

Note C6 has a direct debit discount:-
    5. Electricity customers paying by Monthly Direct Debit or Standing Order will receive a discount off their quarterly Tier 2 consumption charges (and night rates where applicable) of 1.429 p/kWh up to a maximum of £10 (including VAT) per quarter.

You are not on a fixed term tariff. You can switch tariffs within BG's product range immediately.

The smart move at the moment seems to be pleading ignorance about the Click 5 price rise until you are officially told about it by BG, then complaining to them so that you get some weeks of supply at the old, lower rates. Then you move to Click 6 (or someone else's tariff if they are cheaper by then).

Be careful here. EDF are upfront about their price increases and their t's and c's (in very small writing) states that if you infrom them you wish to switch within 14 days they will send you a final bill at the old rate.

Sounds good but they just bill you at the new rates regardless. I think I got the gas sorted eventually but gave up with the electricity, the £20 or so just wasn't worth the hassle of numerous phone calls.

I have just this minute called British Gas and asked them if click 5 energy prices were being or had been increased since I signed up 2 weeks ago. I had my confirmation letter today giving me the changeover date!! The guy on the other end said no there has been no increases since July and they would be the first to know if there was!!
What is going on??? i ahve just looked at the link for Click 5 energy prices and it clearly states applicable from 30th May 2008.

Another Click 5 sucker here :(

Can i cancel this or change supplier or product ? If so what is best, it took me ages to choose that atriff as i dont really understand energy prices (they never turn out as on paper for me) Andy advice for electric and gas in a modern 2 bed property in warwickshire ?

If Click6 is the best deal, then go ahead with Click5 anyway. Once this is up and running you can change to 6 via the website without any fuss or complication - takes thirty seconds!

Eon Online Extra Saver V8 hasnt been available to new customers for a few weeks. Eon Online Extra Saver V9 is now showing on the comparison site.( energy helpline) For my modest usage BG Click 6 is shown as being 114.00 a year cheaper than Eon OL ES V9. ( and Eon OL ES V7 which im moving from)

I applied to change to Click 5 on Sunday to change from Scottish Power Online Dual Fuel. So I have not yet had any paperwork to return. Clearly its not worth doing so unless I change to Click 6. Even then Eon Energy Saver v9 is showing as £75 a year cheaper than Click 6 on Energyhelpline. So I can either switch straight to Click 6 or cancel the change (presumably by just not signing and returning the paperwork) and move to Eon. Although the Eon website doesn't seem to have tariffs and only allows you a quote by comparing your current price rather than using your consumption, so its not possible to verify Energyhelpline.
