  • Fine, everyone's doing it - not good, but the only thing the consumer can do is vote with their money - so more posts telling people that Click6 is a good buy are needed?
  • The point I was trying to make was they may be cheaper for new customers signing up for Click 6 through the switching sites but the fact remains they won't eb cheaper for existing Click 5 customers who don't know/won't be told about Click 6. It's a morally 'dodgy' way of doing business IMO (and I'm not suggesting Bg are the only company doing this, btw)...

If everybody was on the cheapest tariff, then the cheapest tariff wouldnt be as cheap. ;)

Be careful what you wish for, or it might just happen.
  • Can any BG employee give me an acceptable, moral reason why the Click Energy products are superceeded at all? All I can genuinely think of is it's yet another cynical way of getting existing, loyal customers to effectively subsidise the ensnaring of new customers with the shiny new Click product. Why don't BG, for instance, EMAIL (they don't even have to ruddy write a letter!) ALL Click 1-5 punters and tell them they really should transfer to Click 6??
Compared to some other industries, I think the energy market is remarkably fair on existing customers.

At least here, a Click 5 customer is permitted to move to click 6 if they ask.

If this was a financial services product, such as a mortgage, you'd find that new lower rate offers were being made available but only to new customers and that existing customers either were not eligible or had to pay a substantial fee to move to the new product. (That's in the days when anyone was selling mortgages, of course)

Anyway, be honest, if YOU were in charge of a company would you go to the trouble (and expense) of telling all your customers that a cheaper tariff was available, or would you just tell them their existing tariff had gone up and let them find out themselves

You see the old Click 5 rate was just to hoick you in ;) .

Come on Nationwide - diversify and start doing electric and gas!

Edit: Thanks to Martin for putting this on the email seeing as BG couldn't be bothered to inform my folks. I've now saved them a few quid.
  • Thanks to MSE email have just checked with Brit Gas and Click 5 price has definitely gone right up.

I complained that customers haven't been informed of the price hike - and there's NOTHING on the website to note the price rises. They said that customers would be informed on their next bill. I replied that by then it's too late as we'd have been paying the higher prices in the meantime!
They told me that if, when we get our bill, we call to say we weren't aware of the increased price THEY WILL NOT CHARGE US THE INCREASED PRICE FOR THAT BILL. ie, there's a way to delay the price hike!

Unfortunately, as I'd already called them to complain they won't let me take advantage of that deal, so I've now switched to Click 6

but good luck to the rest of you :)

If I was in charge of the COUNTRY, there wouldn't BE the chance for this sort of underhand, dodgy and downright discredited form of conducting business. That's because there would't actually BE private energy companies in the first place. Essential services should NEVER be placed in the hands of companies with shareholders.

    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • I only take electricity from BG on Click Energy5. Recent price has been at 7p a unit - now that is it rise by 20%. However, Energy6 quotes me a unit price of just under 12p - which is obviously a far bigger rise than 20%. So, I believe I'm better off under 5 ... unless I've missed something here!
I don't take their gas - Atlantic still works-out as cheaper!

Another Click 5 sucker here :(

I signed up for Dual fuel on 27/09 and then coudl not belivee when i saw it in the MSE email this week :j

Well i have no account number yet, no paperwork, just an order confirmation email (that i cannot reply to)

Can i cancel this or change supplier or product ? If so what is best, it took me ages to choose that atriff as i dont really understand energy prices (they never turn out as on paper for me) Andy advice for electric and gas in a modern 2 bed property in warwickshire ?

my old energy bill was about £89 per month (though it seems i use more than that) so anything cheaper would be good.

I was on Click Engergy 5 and now changed to 6.

If suppliers automatically put you on cheapest tariff, then what's the advantage of checking MSE forum every day?

You can't blame them not letting you know, they are doing business. (though I know it sucks ) Just imagine, you're getting higher salary than your colleague (while both doing exactly same work). Will you walk to your employer and tell him to reduce your earning?)
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
