Thats the reason why I never phone such organisations, I always use the contact us email facility so as to have proof of what gets said0 -
Given my conversation with British Gas and my original price quote which I have now printed off along with the telephone time and date I will proceed with the switchover and argue if a bill comes through with higher prices.
I had the same situation with NPower on this site when everyone said the prices had increased and it turned out the online tariff 8 had not been increased so it was almost a very expensive mistake for me (£200+) as Npower haveonly just put the prices up on this tarif, hence my changeover to BG. So unless BG inform me in writing as far as I am concerned and OFGEM I will pay the rate quoted! How do we know that they have just put the higher prices on for new customers? so they go to Click 6 or as someone who is currently on the Click 5 tariff actually been informed in writing??0 -
I'm in the North West. The Click Energy 5 prices online duel fuel have gone up as follows
Gas 5.968 to 7.205
Gas 2.504 to 3.606 Extra Cost £ 312 40%
Elc 18.243 to 21.641
Elc 8.588 to 10.759 Extra Cost £ 93 24 %
They also changed how the discounts work to make it more confusing for the customer.
This has obviously been a cynical ploy by British gas. Heavily advertising as the cheapest online rate then massively upping the rates just before winter starts.
How they can justify this is beyond me. To paraphrase Black Adder I hope the chief executive of British gas dies in a freak yachting accident.

If the regulator had any teeth he would put a stop to this superceeding of products WITHOUT moving existing customers onto the new, cheaper rate automatically. I'm not just singling out BG here, all the big 6 are equally guilty. These are private companies with shareholders to answer to, we almost expect them to try 'fiddles' like this. It's up to the regulator/Govt. to say 'STOP!'Call me Carmine....

I applied to change to Click 5 on Sunday to change from Scottish Power Online Dual Fuel. So I have not yet had any paperwork to return. Clearly its not worth doing so unless I change to Click 6. Even then Eon Energy Saver v9 is showing as £75 a year cheaper than Click 6 on Energyhelpline. So I can either switch straight to Click 6 or cancel the change (presumably by just not signing and returning the paperwork) and move to Eon. Although the Eon website doesn't seem to have tariffs and only allows you a quote by comparing your current price rather than using your consumption, so its not possible to verify Energyhelpline.
Normally you have to tell them NOT to do the switch within the 7/14 days depending on their t's and c's. Don't just ignore the letter.0 -

Precisely right. Energy purchasing has become a full time job just to keep up with and manage the so called 'market'. Genuine customers, many of whom have taken the time to set up online billing with BG, get treated with disdain and have to go through yet another process. I can manage it ,because I have the time and inclination but many will just not bother falling right into the hands of these money grabbing parasites.
So much for social justice.0 -
I have been on click 5 since early July. Can anyone advise on the following :-
1. What is the effective date of the tariff change on click 5 ?
2. Once you have written notification of the price increase, ie acting dumb until said event happens, can you call, object to the changes and switch to click 6, with you only paying the old tariff up until that date - or would you have to call, object and initiate a switch to another supplier ?
Basically just want to work out the optimum strategy
My thoughts are :-
Do nothing until notified in writing of increase
Object and inform you will switch thereby prolonging the period on the old rates.
Then go through either energyhelpline and bag the £30 switching bonus, or perhaps Quidco to get upto £50/£60 depending on supplier.
Switch over to say Scott Power.
Then go through process again and switch back to BG click 6 , getting back onto the lowest tariff and getting another £60 via quidco ?
Any comments on this approach ?0 -
I got £60 twice from BG via quidco this year just switching from click energy 3 to 4 and then click 4 to 5, they have blocked that move now, but it should work doing what u suggest to Scottish and back.0

Scottish Power are currently paying £72 (I reckon this is is a limited offer so best not hesitate) for a dual fuel switch on both Quidco and Cashbackkings so maybe do the switch now, you will still be charged on the old Click 5 rates if you email them and say you are switching and don't accept the increased charges, then when you have the wonga from SP switch back to Click 6. SPs online tariff (for me) is actually just slightly more than Click 6 but nothing that £72 cashback won't put right before I'm onto the next one...Call me Carmine....
