  • Confusion marketing, pure and simple, rachy86. Make it so complicated to ascertain what is the best deal that you end up staying where you are (usually on the most expensive tariff as well).

You CAN fight back, though, have a look here:

I am on BG Click 5 tariff which I signed up for online. In my area (MANWEB)the tariff is STILL cheaper than click 6

I phoned BG to ask them to confirm this and they agree that if I transferred to click 6 I would be paying 4p per kilowatt more than staying on the click 5 tariff

Are you sure about this? From the charts on the British Gas site the new rates for Manweb from 30 September 2008 are:-

    Click 5 Tier 1 - 20.610 Click 6 Tier 1 - 18.867
    Click 5 Tier 2 - 10.247 Click 6 Tier 2 - 9.380

So Click 6 looks to be cheaper, or am I missing something? I am in the Manweb area too and have not switched from Click 5 yet, don't know what I should do now?
  • What about Click6 is it competitive? Do you have to ask to go on it?
I transferred onto Click Energy 5 29th September (the day before they increased their prices). I done my a search on a comparison website, double checked it and then signed up to it over the telephone (their website was down). They didn't notify me at the time that the prices were due to increase the following day!! So, yesterday I called them and transferred onto Click Energy 6 for now. This tariff is more expensive than Click5 was but is now cheaper than Click5 is. The comparison sites back this up also. When I asked why nobody had bothered to tell me, they told me that they found out at the same time we do!?!
Anyway, beacuse of this, I'm actually switching suppliers (found a good deal with E-on).
  • How do you find out who supplies your particular area? I live in Cumbria.

Make a copy of this email I put together and email it to everyone you know:-

IMPORTANT FOR BG CLICK ENERGY DUAL FUEL CUSTOMERS

British gas put up their energy prices on TUESDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2008 by 51% for Gas and 40% for electric. They have set up a new product called CLICK ENERGY 6 which is 20-25% cheaper than the existing CLICK ENERGY 1 to 5 products.

Existing customers are NOT moved on to the new product and are NOT notified at all about the price rise. This is immoral so please pass this email on to everyone on your mailing list.

Go to the following web address to get moved on to the new CLICK ENERGY 6 plan:-

    http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/dual/click-energy.html

    Better still, leave BG altogether.

    Thanks.

What? I thought that moving from Click 5 to 6 now was actually a bad idea?

Isn't it better to wait until one actually recieves notification of Click 5 price increases, then tell British Gas you refuse to pay the new rate for energy used prior to notification. THEN switch to Click 6?

then tell British Gas you refuse to pay the new rate for energy used prior to notification

Can someone with BG clarify what our rights are in this situation.

I have just been on the phone to them for this very reason.

She said that their customer service and sales team are not told about any increase until the day it is announced "to stop leaks"

    then and i quote
"our click 5 tariff is still competitive in the market at the moment"

so why is your click 6 cheaper then, i asked

she paused for a bit and then just asked if i wanted to be transferred to the click 6 tariff instead.

I also said i want the click 6 tariff backdated to the start of the contract( only a day or two ago). Which she said she will do.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

We're in the Manweb area too and from what I can see Click 6 is cheaper and my daughter has switched to it, maybe the first poster is looking at the original prices and not the increases ones.
As for BG CS they didn't even know the prices had gone up at one point so how can you trust them
