Well...not much done today. So, as it's late I thought I would do something constructive - so off to put some things on ebay to sell, then I may meal plan for the week.

OK...So I went to my building society to try to follow Kaz's advice (set up SO to pay into my mortgage account - it was the money I was previously paying for insurance:rolleyes: )...apparently they can't do it in the branch, so I had to phone up - I thought they would do it on the phone. Alas! No...they have to send me the form! It's quite astonishing really...I thought things weren't going to go well when I couldn't do it on the internet...Grrr!!!
Is everyone else such a faff about things, or is it just me?!?!

Shopgirl, please keep up the good work of mopping up all these issues for the rest of us, it means we can all get on without them getting in our way; you're doing a great jobshopgirl2512 wrote: »Is everyone else such a faff about things, or is it just me?!?!

Seriously, we have all become so used to ease of access and control via the web that when we have to go back to the "old ways" it throws them into contrast. I get annoyed at schools insisting we write cheques for a whole host of different things (not even combined in one sum as it gets paid to different accounts), it's the only reason we need a cheque book now! I would love to be able to do so electronically (and NatWest have now reduced cheque books to 20 cheques each due to the low usuage.)0 -

Hi shopgirl,
I'm with Nationwide. Not 100% sure about a standing order, but if I want to make a one-off payment to the mortgage account, I can simply pop in to any Nationwide branch, give them my mortgage account and either hand over some cash or ask them to take it from our current account (also with Nationwide).
On-line. Even easier. Just do a transfer into the mortgage account and confirm.
I do nearly all my overpayments on-line as I can do this at any time of the day, ie when branches aren't open!
Why go for a SO by the way? Could you not just up your regular payment by your insurance amount, although I appreciate a SO is under your control...

Stuart - thanks! I like to make myself useful! I'll keep you up to date with any more incompetence!!!:DShopgirl, please keep up the good work of mopping up all these issues for the rest of us, it means we can all get on without them getting in our way; you're doing a great job
FB - I think you may be right...it's probably the best thing to do (officially increase payments). My mortgage provider sent me a lovely letter telling me to fill in the enclosed form for the SO and send it on...one problem - no form enclosed! It clearly was never meant to be. I'll be on the phone to increase payments tomorrow...:rolleyes:MBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -

You have my complete sympathy! What is probably making it more frustrating is that they are preventing you from giving them more money....
Hopefully FB's advice will help resolve this0 -

Hi shopgirl,
I hope you don't get charged for a change in payment. I can only speak from experience, but in my experience with Nationwide - I can alter the term of my mortgage, thus either shortening or lengthening the term with no charge.
Shortening term increases the monthly payments, while lengthening the term reduces the monthly payments. Also, despite being on a fixed rate product, I can overpay by up to £500 per month. So, despite the "fixed" word in the name, I find them very flexible.
I used to pay 485.40 a month on my mortgage. I upped my standard payment (in several hops) and I'm now paying 898.03 a month to the mortgage. I'm also overpaying to top up to between 1,000 and 1,100 a month.
In the current financial climate they should be delighted to take more money off you. I'd certainly be very disappointed if I was getting charged to change the payment, although I bet some mortgage providers have a charge covered in their T&Cs.
Let us know how you get on...

you poor thing!! what a nightmare...it is so frustrating when you can't give it away!!! i do empathise...my mortgage still hasn't been converted yet..apparently won't happen until november as i applied for the change in october... all i want to do is start my op's...you'd think that they would at least help a bit...mind you, they probably don't like the idea of losing all that interest....:rotfl:0

Just a quick one as I'm off to wash my veg!!!:D
Thanks everyone for being so lovely about the ongoing trauma of me trying to give my money away and no one wanting it!
Fabulous news folks...I have eventually managed to increase my OP officially, which should start on November (with no charge...it is NR, afterall:p )...any other repayments can go through the branch - Woo hoo!!!!!!!:T
Don't worry...I'll find something else to get in a flap about soon!
Thanks again folks!:TMBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0
