Hi shopgirl,
Great to have you back - was wondering where you had got to. Belated happy birthday wishes - nearly 2 months late now!
FB.Mortgage and debt free. Building up savings...0 -
FB and Stuart - thanks for the welcome back (and the happy birthday message - well remembered! Hope you had a great Christmas/New Year).
I'm hoping to really get in the swing of things again, but I'm starting on my savings, as they have disappeared. I'll still be making small OPs on my mortgage, so hopefully you won't mind if I hang around here instead of Savings!
Well my first task this week was to sell my CDs. I have put them on Music Magpie. You don't get much for them but my tatse in music is soooooo poor that they only make 1p on Amazon...perhaps I'd make more on ebay?
Anyhoo...I'm off for a cheap evening with wine T and friends, and I'll be back later to read your diaries. Have a good eve.MBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -

Look forward to hearing from you Valli1Just found this thread shopgirl but I'll be back...
Well...3 more days then it's back to work, so quite a lot still to do. Today's tasks- putting some books on t'internet to try to make some more pennies
- Make chicken soup from left overs and freeze
- Paint some woodwork
- Hang new (£10 for both - bargain considering the size of my windows) voile at my windows
- Clean oven and fridge (I hate housework!!!! )

Well...got some more books on Amazon and sold a few Cds, so the money making is getting underway. :T
I'm struggling with Quidco at the mo...does anyone know how long it usually takes for transactions to show on your homepage? I know they all take different times, but I have been waiting a while for 3 transactions to show and nothing!
Due to me not having the best year last year, and my feeling a little bored with life, I was thinking about moving abroad to do some teaching, with a view to staying for some time. Unfortunately, due to the new(ish!) dire financial situation, I thought it better to sit in and watch TV in England, rather than wasting the opportunity, and watching TV in a different country! So...what that has done is made me think I need an adventure, or at least a new hobby! My plan is to save for 2 trips this year (I think we all need to have more in our lives than mortgage repayments!). Any ideas on fun and exciting things to do...I should be getting on with my masters, or starting the book...you know - the usual! :rotfl:
Now I know what you're saying...the daft girl is poor and she's off on hols! I hear ya!:p But...one of the trips is to Egypt in October, where my friend is living at the mo, so it's flights and spends only, and the other is my traditional pre-Christmas trip with one of my lovely friends (probably Paris this year - it can be scaled down if needs be). Nothing is booked, so I can alter any plans if I need to, but...fingers crossed!
Anyway, I'm off to put some more stuff on one of the auction sites..have a grand Saturday - it's a glorious day!:DMBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -

Fully agree you have to live as well as hit the targets to be MF. Consider locations outside the € zone for a start. Depending on the sort of thing you enjoy, for the Med try Turkey or Tunisia (latter is cooler in summer and there's a lot see there if you head inland) as both should be cheaper than our European partners.
If you are not too worried about costs, then I can recommend Norway and Sweden in mid-late May, absolutely fabulous in Stockholm for 5 nights (cheap hotels in advance and it's their "summer" so rooms are reduced prices even in the city centre. In Norway you must go to Bergen and from their sail up the Songuen (spl??) Fjord to Flam - the vista gets better and better as the Fjord becomes narrower and steeper-sided. One caution, in Bergen stay in a hotel not a guesthouese, latter aren't necessarily up to standards elsewhere in Norway as we found out.
Alternatively, see you in Mexico this summer which is where we'll be; and it is all part of the MFW plan, cheaper in fact than our holiday in Crete last year

Gosh Stuart - you have given me a lot to think about! I love Sweden, it is a fabulous country and I would love to explore the rest of Scandanavia. Although Mexico sounds like fun...:D
Good news - I have sold another of my 'classic' CDs! I have also cancelled my VERY expensive gym and will be joining a more MSE friendly gym, a saving of £30 a month:T . I have to call them to confirm, as my friend who was a joint member did the cancelling and neither of us has any confirmation. The cancellation period is 3 months! Ridiculous!
I also need to cancel my phone contract as I have recently got myself a super good deal on a skype phone, which means I never have to pay for calls to my best mate ever again!:j
Right, I'm off to check my baking(!) and my expenditures (hmmm...).MBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0
