Barclays Bank in Woking have a coin sorting machine - if you have a Barclays account you just put in your card or account no., throw the money in and it counts it and adds to the account - no charge. Presumably must have some in other branches.
  • This morning I struggled to open a drawer that was full of loose change, 2p 1p etc. So I spent half an hour bagging up the 2ps. I took ten bags down to the building society, but they could only take 5 bags per day from me, so I had to walk to another branch so that I could pay in the other 5 bags. No bother I thought, at least I managed to put £10 in my e-savings accounts which is better than having it sit in a drawer not making anything.

Next week I plan to make daily visits until I have emptied my Drawers!!!!!!

Anyone know how I can go about paying in lots of small change to a bank or otherwise?

I have seen these coinstar machines but they charge 7.9% to sort and pay out.

My bank won't take many bags of coins a day.

  • if you have an account with that bank they should let you pay any amount in. I know some banks that don't like this during peak times, eg lunchtime. I wouyld have a word with the branch and say that you have a large amount and what would be the best way to pay them in.

If they are all bagged correctly they should'nt really refuse you. Sounds like they could'nt be bothered to weigh all of them.

you must have some amount of coins!!

  • I was told by one samllish branch of A&L that their safe isn't big enough to hold lots of coinage.

Have you tried the post office ?

No, I haven't tried the post office. Do they convert coins to cash?

Scabbey National have (or used to have) a limit for 10 bags per adult customer per day due to space requirements but strangely no limit for children.

If you have an account with one of the "big four" you shouldn't have a problem
