Whenever I walk up to the counter with a load of change they always look sooooo moody! Problem solved, plus you don't clog up one cashier for too long either!
Barclays Bank in Woking has one of those machines free for customers - just put debit card in or input account details, tip all the cash in and then it gets counted and credited to your account. No fee!0 -
The other side of the coin is of course - your on your lunch hour with little time to spare and you happen to be behind someone with a lot of coin - how would you feel then?0

this site http://www.royalmint.com/RoyalMint/web/site/Corporate/Corp_british_coinage/LegalTenderGuidelines.asp?menuID=-1&MenuItemID=102&MenuType=PAGE
has the amounts for legal tender of coinage when used for transactions. I don't think it applies to banks however, they should accept anything.
I'm really interested to know about the Crown (25p, see the link). Has anyone ever seen one of these?0 -

Brilliant why can't all banks have these.0 -
We were discussing this in the pub last night, and two people informed me that they have one of those counting machines in Asda in Nottingham. Don't know if they have one in any other Asda. You can either get a voucher to spend on your groceries or you can get the cash.0

Nationwide will only accept 5 bags per day But have been to HSBC and all was OK didn't seem bothered so long as they weighed correctly :wave:

I believe it is not just Asdas that have them. I have seen them in sainsburys as well.
They are not free you get charged something like 12% of the money you have put in.
I use my change jar to help pay off my mortgage as I have offset so in my case every penny helps.

Most of the "traditional" banks (Barclays, Lloyds TSB, NatWest etc - not converted building societies) will change almost unlimited amounts for their own customers - IF it is bagged properly - bronze £1, 5p or 10p in £5, 20p or 50p in £10, £1 or £2 in £20 - no mixed coins.
As has been said already on this thread, it would be worthwhile checking with the Bank when would be a good time to call - try and avoid lunch times (out of consideration for other customers as well)Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -

I bank with Halifax and can only take in 4 bags of coppers a day. And speaking of the £5 coin - I found that my Grandma and Grandad must have given us all one to commemorate Charles and Di's wedding. Found it in a little official folder in the attic with all my books. So if I ever get really desperate...Accepted offer on our house - Sept 2006
