saving loose change (merged)

I don't know about you, but I bought this gadget, and it is excellent... I went round the house and got all my loose change, and also counted all my 1p's, 2p's and 5p's that were in a small jar, and got £35.... which has now paid for this, and it is so easy peasy to use.... no 7.5% to pay here, and it's fun, and the kids want to play with it too, including big kid hubby !

Trying to find the best deals to save as much as we can..........0 -
Went into my local small branch of Barclays the other day, and got a load of those plastic moneybags. The woman behind the counter said that they will accept any amount as long as it is properly bagged up.
OH suitably happy with a few hours contented counting and bagging, with a satisfied declaration of total so far! (told him about the machine charges, which gave him pause for thought, bless him).

thanks for a wonderful read!!! I have so much loose coins, I'd have to get them to drop the machine outside my front door!! I raid it from time to time for lunch money...I try to make it a mix of silver and copper....but hey we're Brits, aren't we meant to LOVE queueing......0

I personally don't understand the argument about saving up all your loose change. If you just spend it as you would normal money, then you won't need to go to the cash-point so often. This leaves you with more money in your bank account, and without the hassle of having to count it all up.[size=-2]Matched betting profit: ~ £30,000 since Jan 2005

I went into Lloyds TSB once and told them how many coins I had and could I have some bags to put them in and I was told they cant afford to give away that many bags. I think I was after 20ish. Oh well...went home and put all the coins back into a big pot and im continuing to fill it up. Cant stand coins filling my wallet up. :P- FateFirst0

Does anyone know if there's a limit as to how much you can pay into the bank in pennies in one go?
I have a bottle for 1 and 2p's which is nearly ready to be emptied, as well as having a 5p bottle too.
But I don't want to go down there and be charged for paying in too much in one goComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
Ask at your own bank as they are all different. I bank with HSBC an dmy bank will take any amount that are pre bagged correctly, no upper limit at all. Some of the banks that used to be building socities often have upper limits on the amount of bagged coin they will take.
Obviously only your own bank will take them, you are unlikely to find a bank that will accept bagged coin from a non customer, unless of course they are desperate for coinage!

I've taken nearly £45 worth of 2p, 1p and 5p coins into Nat West over the course of the last week after emptying the pot that the kids and I throw our loose chage into every night. They gave me the notes without a murmur. I do have an account at Nat West (not that branch) but they didn't even ask me if I was a customer. It was all in the correct bags and counted/sorted properly. If not, you can use one of those "Coinstar" machines that they have in supermarkets but I think they charge 7p in the £0
