buyer asking for my supplier details

  • Here is the thing Jockey, I sell a well known branded items - which I buy direct from the manufacturer. A few years back I was the only person at the time who had this one particular item and although I listed the start prices as low on eBay the prices would shoot up as I was the only person selling them.

Someone bought something from me and then emails me to tell me that these goods are sub standard and that they could not be goods made by xx. I, being a newbie to the business world, very naively said 'yes they are, I buy my goods direct from xx and can show you the invoice should you disbelieve me'. I never showed the invoice but said 'buyer' was infact a competitor buying with their own buying name, who in turn found out that they could buy the same goods I was selling direct from the manufacturer (not really done when I first started and their stock was from places like Makro) and within a month I saw my sales wiped out by thousands of pounds. This competitor must have either had access to a lot of money or remortgaged their house to buy almost everything possible. Leaving nothing for my to buy. I lost lost sales of around £4000 a week!! Because they then went and bought the same goods and put them on BIN so people were buying direct from them and suddenly, the items selling for £30 before could be bought for £10. The ones I was selling were suddenly selling for cost. They still made a good profit on them as they had bought so many. No said seler is selling for peanuts and seems happy to work for 50p a sale.

This is how easy it is to lose the bulk of your business.

Now everyone buys and sells the same stock. That side of the business is not worth doing anymore and so I do not bother, I let everyone else fight over the scraps but I did get a fre months out of it and I chose to reinvest the money luckily rather than spend it otherwise I would have not been able to continue.

OP I will again say, never, ever disclose to anyone where you get your stock from, if they want it then they'll go digging and find it - that is there perogative - but do not give it to them on a plate as it might be that it is not so hard to find. Get them to return the goods to you, even if it means you lose money on the goods, it is not worth ruining your business for the sale of a few ££ profit.

But, this does not mean the OP is selling fakes even if the buyer says so, I have had first hand experience of this happening to me. I get accused of selling fakes but I have invoices to back me up to show where the goods come from. If they are that bothered they'll go to trading standards and I'll have paperwork behind me.

I just wondered if jockey is the buyer as they are getting a bit irate with people saying not to disclose. It really does not matter, if the goods were not allowed to be resold then eBay would not allow them and the listings would be pulled. Sadly eBay and Paypal see on the side of the buyer regardless when it comes to being accused of selling fakes so the buyers can just scream 'fake' and get their money back.

Not quite right. Tesco own brand, take it up with Tesco as you are buying their brand. I doubt you can accuse Tesco of selling fake Tesco cornflakes. However would Tesco give their full backing and consumer rights to someone who had bought Tesco cornflakes off ebay and not through them?

Actually, I am completely right. Tesco does not manufacture the products they label as "own brand". These lines are by a multitude of different companies. Tesco would never divulge to a customer who the manufacturers are. Get it? Nor would they divulge information about their suppliers. In fact, it wouldbe unlawful for them to do so without the agreement of said supplier due to the various confidentiality clauses in the buyer/supplier contracts. Same thing applies to promotions, etc.

Sorry, I thought the thread started with the customer isn't happy the goods are genuine. My mistake as I interpreted not genuine to be fake!

No your mistake was not bothering to read the thread because you obviously wasn't really interested and instead tried to stir things up a bit and fail miserably.

    and rightly so;)

Absolutely not!! People are running reputable businesses on eBay believe it or not, it is not just full of 'fly by nights' and not just on eBay, lots of others on the Paypal marketplace where it is offered. People scream fake to get their money back DISHONESTLY because eBay and Paypal allow this DISHONEST behaviour to continue without question. Now I will not take Paypal. 'Here, have the goods, no need to return them and get your money back too'. And sellers can do naff all about it as the buyer states 'Paypal told me to destroy it, honest guv, I do not have it anymore'. Yeah, right.

Hence eBay going down the toilet. It's been a loooong time they gave 1p listings. It's been a long time since they gave exposure of shop items in their main body listings. They are clearly suffering because people are sick of them ruining their businesses and giving money back to customers just because a customer screams fake or not received. eBay and Paypal do not give a toss about paperwork backing up the goods they have bought. It is a disgrace and good for you for thinking that this DISHONEST behaviour is OK and acceptable.

And there you are banging on about it being dishonest and wrong to sell fake goods yet you are quite happy to say that it is acceptable to rip sellers off by screaming fake when goods aren't.
