OS Daily Thread - Friday 26th September

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for 26th September. It is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone!

Am up stupidly early today - luckily I was in bed and asleep by about 2130!

Can't believe September is almost over and our longed for Indian Summer just appeared for 6 days and left again. Can't escape Autumn now I guess! Wow, aren't I cheerful this morning?? On a happier note :D I do still have plenty of red chillis on my plants and some large-ish peppers too so still enjoying home grown produce a little longer, which extends the non existant summer!

It's my OH's birthday tomorrow so I have to make a card for him today - well, once he is out at work anyway!

mummysaver - thanks hon, we haven't tried just the dough setting yet but I think I might do cos I do love granary rolls.
twink - I had a pm from Anniestar too and I told her we missed her.
Meanmarie - You and your husband are both in my prayers
Pippa - hope your mum continues to get better
stefejb - fun website! But for extra support, we already have something similar on the flyladies thread. (and it comes with free nagging too!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: )
Poppy - I hope things turned out well for you yesterday

I hope you all have a good day!

*Hugs* to those who need them and congratulations to anyone who is celebrating today.

  • Good morning MSD and all who follow

Having trouble sleeping so I have given up and got up. Thought I would visit my favourite website while I have the chance. :D My car goes in for its MOT this morning so I'm hoping it won't be an expensive day for me. I think the brakes may need some work but other than that I'm hoping it will be fairly straightforward.

As I don't have a car for most of the day and don't fancy taking two bus journeys that will take over an hour to get to work, I have treated myself to a day off. So, I will use the day to get ahead of myself and hopefully DS, DD and I can then have a day out over the weekend. I think it's supposed to be quite nice here this weekend and it would be a shame to waste that.

I managed to get all the beds changed and the bedsets dried on the line this week - wonder when I will be able to do that again. I've also been using the Remoska a fair bit.

I've been quite forgetful this week for some reason - too many things on my mind I suspect. I almost set fire to the house when I didn't switch off the curry cooking on the cooker before I went on the school run. When I came home the whole house was filled with smoke. The day after that, I left the back door open when I went on the school run. So I now find myself double and triple checking everything before I leave the house.

Anyway, enough rambling from me. ((((hugs)))) to all who need them - I know there will be quite a few of you out there. Take care. :j :j :j to those with something to celebrate.

    Have a fabulous Friday. xx

Good morning all who have posted and all who follow.

The weather forecast is good for the weekend so maybe it will be a mini-Indian summer!

Talking of MOTs, mine is due next week - the car has always passed in previous years (even though it's 11 years old now!) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Could do without any extra expense there! I'm trying very hard not to use it these days but DH takes it to work on the days I don't need it because it's cheaper on the fuel than his 4X4.

Well, I have decided not to do my usual food shopping this week and to try and get by on what I already have in the house. Hope I can manage!

Anyway, must dash - I've just looked at the time and need to get DH up for work.

(((Hugs))) to everyone for now and I'll pop back after breakfast!

    See you later.

Morning all, just heard the news. Talks of black-outs this winter which means the elderly will suffer so I must get knitting squares again, I just haven't found the time lately.

Hope to finish decorating today and clean through for DMum coming tomorrow. I have sorted out meals for the week, DM is a fussy eater. most of the food I already have in cupboards and freezer, so hoping for a NS week apart from F&V.

Must make a start on mine and DH's Tax returns, I'll sort the books out ready for the accountant. It will be the last ime I do DH's work Tax as he has retired. He continues to improve day by day.

Off for another coffee and catch up on y/days thread.

Hugs to Smokey, my widowed MIL had to move her bedroom furniture round before she could sleep in it, hopefully it will work for you.
One exhausted grandma here, as I babysat last night, DGS who is 4 was asleep, but DGD 9 months decided to wake up to play with Nana, she has 4 teeth now & crawling really fast & pulling herself up on the furniture, oh & pulling my hair if she can get close enough. The real reason I'm tired is cos DD & I chatted for an hour or so when she got home.
I best get organised & get ready for work.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning girls.

First day of the course yesterday was much fun. A bit repetitive (most of us complained about this), but there are a couple of girls there who might be better off that way.

Making pizzas tonight. Haven't done it sicne I was 15, with my darling mum. Oh, how I miss her today!

Will go before I get weepy. HAve a good day everybody!

    Morning.

Brrrr, it's a bit nippy here, especially in my kitchen which has a verrrry high vaulted ceiling, with no insulation and 3 big perspexy skylights. Not very moneysaving
Had a lovely chinese buffet meal last night with 2 friends from work, we had a good natter and a giggle and it was £8.90 a head.
Working all day today, so it will be our usual Friday tea of fish and chips  (Seniors ;) for Morwenna & Floss)

    Shez & Catowen :hello:
Anniestar  look forward to reading your posts again soon.
Smokey, great news about the taxi, we see a few drivers in the shop and they are delighted to get a regular run. It will also give you peace of mind if you are running a little late, let alone a lie in.

Hugs to the poorlies and those who are caring for and worrying about them.

  • Morning Chums,
am up with the lark this morning as I am off to Manchester for the week-end. An hour on the train to London then a trek across to Euston, and another couple of hours from there, still it will be worth it as I will meet my cousin for the first time from Australia.
I am all packed, and just about to go and have some breakfast. I have made some sarnies to take with me on the train ,no British Rail junk for me ,just wholemeal bread, cheese & salad stuff.I will even take a bottle of pop with me. Am I taking frugality too far do you think :D .
I will have a busy week-end with the relatives, as my other nephew from Oxfordshire will also be up there as well. As they say it will be 'a bit of a do'
I found lots of old photos to take with me of the family, so she will see what we all are like. I bet the weather is a bit chilly after NSW though.
I hope everyone has a good weekend and <<hugs>> to those who are sad or lonely.
    See you all on Monday
    Cheers JackieO xx
  • Morning all

JackieO, have a great time with the rellies, try not to be the one who gets drunk and dances on the table :D

Horrible and foggy here today, but the weather is supposed to be good over the weekend, so will strip the bed and put clean sheets on.w

Normally go shopping on Friday, but decided that I don't need to as I am working on Sunday so won't have the usual roast dinner.

GMTV are asking if we are facing a Winter of power cuts, so sould be worth watching.

Off out with Charlie now, so will catch you all later x

  • Morning all

It's chilly here but dry. Supposed to be a nice weekend, so shall be out and about.

Venison sausages cooked in red wine were lovely yesterday, will definitely do that again as they are quite cheap in my local butcher. Got a lot done in the garden and allotment. Intend to do some more today before I go to work at 1pm.

POPPY hope OH arrived ok, see you in a few weeks.
SMOKEY good luck with the decorating.
Big hugs to anyone who needs one today. A winter of powercuts, think I've got deja vue, will be experiencing 17% inflation next and a 3 day week  .

    Have a good day all.

    Jan :A xxxx
  • Good Morning All

JackieO - have a lovely time.

Having just found local places where I can buy a half lamb and half pig cheaply I am worrying that if I stock my freezer and we have loads of powercuts it will all be a waste - dont know what to do.

Today have normal stuff of - office work, housework and ironing. Also have family coming over today to give DS his birthday card etc (its his birthday sunday).

Have got pork loin chops in barbeque casserole for tea. Have already got them out of the freezer and will probably start cooking them before the family arrive - will use the slow cooker.

    Have a great day all.
