Your alternative ISP options are very limited though.

imho, Sky 'Connect' is probably still the best value package available to you for BT IPstream connections

Is there a 'Mark this post as typed by a Numpty' button on this forum?

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of IPstream ISPs, a large proportion of them much better than pipex/tiscali.

There are also packages which may suit the OP better than connect, both in terms of money and allowance.

Far be it from me to recommend Mr Tickle's broadband (Beware Tiscali), but they do seem to offer up to 8mb for £15 a month which is cheaper than the Sky Connect package, it also has the advantage of you not having to move ISPs, and its only simple job to switch to over to ADSL max.
    BTW what is your exchange?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Just rang them, said I requested the mac code and I know you have to supply it to me within 5 days,I was told to get back to you after 3 days if I haven't received.I haven't.
Operator then went off the line and came back and gave me the mac code over the phone!!

Now have 28 days to use it-daughter had baby now so that is not such a problem.
    Rang them on 0871 222 6367 open 9 till 6

So if OH speaks to sky,is there any other company he could play them off against? Is he likely to get it any cheaper than what is published?

Finally gone with sky.We got the connection for £25 ,rather than the published £50 , (very expensive anyway),non LLU, and he got them to chuck in the extra £5 per month for the daytime calls free.He just kept making different calls to the company last night until he got the best price, (I hope) £27 for the 8mb 40 gb with free daytime, evening and weekend calls.
I rang uswitch who claimed the ONLY thing they could offer us was aol 10gb..whats that about!!

I was with bulldog for a few years, they also had my telephone line.

last year i requested a change to my package as i was paying more than others for the same thing, and they also took off my messaging service. after trying for a whole year for this to be sorted out me and the OH gave up and asked for the mac code, each time they just refused.

Eventually the only way at the time for me to get away was to ring bt and go to them and ask them to claw back my phone, i'm now in a 12 month contract with bt, not the cheapest but then again i've not had a problem with the phone or the tinternet, bt just took everything back from bulldog and i cancelled the direct debit.

Bulldog then decided to get funny and start writting letters, we told them that seeing that they have broken contracts with us by not providing the service i was paying for that i went to a more competent company, therefore not breaking their contract which was now null and void.

All through this bulldog blamed the new owner pipex who blamed bulldog... i'm glad i am away from the incompetent fools
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

With my customary reserve,I just rang up Sky this morning, half hour or more to get through.
Adviser said,no the package could not be £27,it was £32.

I explained that my husband had come to a different agreement.
Asked to be put though to a supervisor.as soon as I uttered the words "distance selling regulations",I was cut off.

Rang back to a different option.Explained to operator we had 3 times got him to repeat the price-£27.She said they couldn't technically give me free anytime-BUT as compensation they would let me have it for £20!!(does a little jig) got all their staff /manager ids and names and departments.happy bunny-will write in my appreciation to cs dept for them swiftly making good.I did make them again politely aware I knew I could cancel under distance selling anyway.Result!!
