In my post #11 i think you will see that someone elses provider had been a diffeent company anf Pipex said theydidn't have to provide it.0

have you checked to see if sky LLU is available to you yet? looks like 2 weeks of umming and ahhing and not much else. try to ignore OH, just listen to your son who sounds like he has an idea what he's talking about, get him to check LLU availability, but get your MAC anyway, anything is going to be better (and cheaper) than your current situation.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Bulldog mostly sold fully unbundled telephone and broadband services from Cable & Wireless. That's why a MAC is not required, as the bulldog customer would need to have their telephone line returned to BT as part of cancelling their bulldog phone and broadband service.
With the original HomeCall from a few years back, they only ever offered phone services down a regular BT phone line. I think you had the option of continuing to pay line rental to BT, or pay line rental and call charges to Homecall.
The only issue that might arise is when Tiscali bought Pipex last year, they may have taken the opportunity to move some Homecall phone users over to Tiscali's phone and broadband network if Tiscali have their own equipment installed at their telephone exchange. In which case, obtaining a MAC would be pointless and not applicable. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think Pipex Homecall have ever intentionally moved existing Homecall telephone service users from BT over to Tiscali.
As well as changing broadband service provider, you obviously need to consider what to do with your current telephone service. Who do you pay your line rental to (BT? Pipex?), who do you pay your call charges to (Pipex I guess)?0 -
Ok-just rang Pipex .
As usual very polite.
Asked me if I wanted to cancel,I said no thanks just the mac code.
They tried to offer me something that was still £5 dearer than sky.
Told them I wanted to migrate to another company because I wanted to keep all my bills together.
They gave me some spiel, including how I could have the mac code sent to an email of my choosing, then changed it and said to my Pipex webmail.
They have given me a reference and said it should be received within 2 to 5 days.
Said to contact them after 3 days If I haven't received it.

Whilst you are waiting confirm that Sky can provide you with LLU broadband on your line. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

My son doesn't think we can get that here.
Is that a problem?
It will be enough just to change from Pipex, pay less money and get a faster speed hopefully.0 -
What's wrong with male pride??? It's not like it ever started any wars or anything!
Oh wait... hang on a second... *grin*
What's wrong?!!! What do you mean what's wrong?!!!!!!!!!! We could have a whole thread just talking about what's wrong and I'm sure within a day, all the women on here (and men :P) could make it the longest thread on here!
That's what's wrong!

Round 1
Wow you got a ref number?!! That's pretty good, that's more than what I got! Check your email tomorrow morning... although they do normally say working day so if it's not there tomorrow, maybe Monday. My one did come the following day - I did it Monday and came around late Tuesday afternoon.0 -

Doesn't Sky have one of those checker things on their site? If not, what about Samknows website.
Well at least you've requested your MAC. While it takes time to come through, quickly choose who you want to go too. If sky doesn't take you, try o2 broadband. (They are LLU and use ADSL2+.)0 -
