    Hi hollydays,

The problem you have described is quite common with Pipex. I was also a Pipex customer for two years and since they migrated to Tiscali, I went from 6MBPS to 0.5MBPS. After trying everything, I stayed at 0.5MBPS. And that was on a good day. On bad days, I went down to 0.1MBPS and at times, it wouldn't even work.

I transferred from them recently to o2 and had no problems getting a MAC code. Like yourself, I was also petrified as I have dealt with their CS before and have had problems too with them so I know how awful they really are. When I was on the phone to the Customer Service lady, I asked her repeatedly will I get it? She kept saying yes and I said "what about if I dont?" She tried to avoid the question until eventually she was forced to say she'd give it over the phone. I noted her name down and the time.

I have no successfully transferred over to o2 but still having problems with Pipex. They have failed to close my account (infact I received a letter congratulating me on opening an account with them!) and are still charging me for a service no longer provided. I have googled this and found this to be a common problem from anyone who has left Pipex.

All I can say is I hope you do get your MAC code but just know they won't close your account and you'll join the rest of us on a fight to get this done....

I would also advise you: CHANGE OVER AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

Thanks Rummy,I am very grateful for everyones contributions.I am drawing together a plan in my head.I am actually considering paying a solicitor to draft a letter to them regarding the cancellation. Although this\might cost me a little, its nothing compared to what I am almost certain it is going to cost me in time and phone calls. I normally have a very good success rate getting issues resolved with companies, but you can not understand how appallingly this company is organised until you have dealt with them.

Regarding the issues of them continuing to take your money, could I not speak to my bank and pre-empt this. Could I not just cancel the standing order? Or are they still entitled to take the money until they see fit? What if I changed payment to a different account that only had limited money in first?
  • As you are aware Pipex are owned by Tiscali. You might therefore find this info helpful.

Yes you can cancel it - I'm assuming it's a direct debit and not a standing order? I've not heard of Pipex doing a standing order. Only do this once you have your MAC code and have TRANSFERRED over. Not before.

What will happen though is once you transfer over, they will continue to bill you unnecessarily and then interrogate you and threaten you with baliffs and court proceedings.

Also, although they are with Tiscali now, if you call them up, they cannot bring up your details and give you a Pipex number to call back on. I wouldn't waste my time calling Tiscali.

I am also tempted to do what you suggested with the solicitor. Again maybe hefty but I'd rather do that then deal with them. I'd suggest you get your MAC code first and then proceed. Pipex really are a nightmare. I'm suprised they are still allowed to run today.

Ok- I can handle them threatening me,that really doesn't bother me.
Now,if they had taken my money-that's war.
I will let you know how I get on.

I am just trying to everything just right, however I know it will make absolutely no difference.

Just to update you on my situation,my OH does not want to change because he saw the programme on "don't get done, get Dom" where a man had no phone etc for 3 months with Pipex.

He spoke to Pipex yesterday and they "say " they are prepared to match sky. This is NOT what I want. He says he is going to ring up again today regarding the price, problem is, asking and getting things done are not the same thing with this company. Also I do NOT want to be in another contract with them.

noooooooooooo, what on earth is your OH thinking of? Please try and explain to him it's the worst possible decision.

Pipex will tell you that they will give you a retention package or whatever and then price match another company. It will all be good and you'll agree. Then a few months on you'll find you are still being charge £25.99 or however much they charge you and that the deal hasn't been met. You'll waste time calling them. They'll apologise. They'll say you'll get a refund. A year on, you'll still be waiting for that refund. Half way into all of this, your OH will get some sense to move. Then they'll you that by you agreeing to the deal, you've locked yourself into another contract so there's no out (even though they aren't meeting their end of it). And it will just go on and on and on.

Your OH should understand this is what happens. It would be easier for you to get a MAC, switch over and then deal with all their !!!!! afterwards. At least you'll still be paying cheaper elsewhere and getting a better service.

The best thing you could possibly do in life is to leave Pipex. Please try and get your OH to understand that.
