Well I was told earlier I'd be called back later today after a meeting was held, and that everyone in the same situation would receive the same offer, no matter what that offer turned out to be, there would be no exceptions.

Good to see they are telling other people about the meeting. I wonder what the offer will be, probably not a very good one but we can hope... and we will know very quickly if there do happen to be exceptions.
  • I'm new to these forums, just got directed here from AVForums where there are loads of us in the same situation. I ordered this screen on 28-11-05, like the rest of you I had my expected delivery changed from 02-12-05 to 05-12-05, then 09-12-05, now seems to be canceled. I've just written an email to Watchdog, thought I'd post in here also as it's good to know just how many others are in the same boat.

I do have the PDF confirmation forms, after reading t&c's, it doesn't look as though Dell can just back out of contract this way, I've contacted Dell using various emails to insist on this.

Anyway, good luck all, let's hope we get somewhere with this, there are enough of us to get the likes of Watchdog interested.

You have to be patient with Dell so chill out, they have just honoured the 19" monitor misprice but it took a month to resolve.

I've put a poll as a way of counting how many of us there are:

Please "vote" and leave comments, let's see if we're just a few losers or a powerful force to be reckoned with!
  • Thank you for the info Ruthannb. No exceptions? Individual case are not judged on their own merits then? Do not take their no exceptions rubbish. Negotiate and come to a compromise that suits your circumstances.
I agree with deanos, be patient.

Be polite but firm at all times and do not play all your cards in one call. Remember Dell have been slated over the last twelve months for their customer services. The last thing they need is more bad PR. Especially leading up to Christmas?

I appreciate Dell might not see it like this but the cost to them for honouring our contracts would be minimal compared to all the bad PR. e.g. MSE, Watchdog, Trading Standards, IT Magazines, TV/Home Entertainment magazines etc...?

I am particularly p1ss3d as this TV was supposed to be a present for my son. It is his birthday today!

Many thanks to all who have posted, keep up the good work and keep us posted!

Sorry for the long email everyone but here is the status I am upto with Dell

Came in from work tonight and checked my order status to find the message " order located but we cannot advise status, please call" so I phoned up the Ireland number who put me though to someone wheo then transfered me to another number then onto another number which just kept ringing out so and put the phone down and tried again and guess what it happened again  .

Hung up the phone and phoned the irish number and asked the operator if Dell had a complaints department and she said do you want to write in but I politely said no I would like to speak to someone now so I got put through to the Customer care line which was in Ireland and not the Indian call centre, told the guy on the phone that I am trying to track my order and keep getting passed around to all diffeent people and then no-one answers the phone so he took all my details inc order number and told me that the TV is "end of line" and they cannot fulfil orders but there is currently a management meeting on and will be going on for a few more hours but customer care should have a decision by 10am tomorrow.

I aksed the guy if there was anyone else in the same situation to which he replied "there a a coouple of hundred customers" who have not had the TV and he could not advise me until tomorrow and he said he will phone me back after 10am tomorrow (I have heard this before so not placing much hope on a call) to tell me what is going on and I said I beleive you are offering people 10% off the 32" LCD to which I politely said I wont accept that offer and it was not adequate enough as the 32" is over £1,000.

Hopefully if Dell are having a mangement meeting tonight then they must know there is a big problem which needs to be rectified

Dont just give into Dell and admit defeat on the cancel of order as the more people that try and fight for some sort of compensation or a TV the better and they should admit there is a big problem that they need to sort out and we should email Watchdog and advise them of Dell and see if they can step in and give us a hand.

If no-one bothers to call me by 5pm tomorrow I will be phoning them back and getting irate.

I will post an update tomorrow if I get any new info

I hope eveyone sticks to their guns on this one.
I'll ring Dell sometime after 10 tomorrow but to be honest I wouldn't even trust that any such meeting has been taking place.
More likely a fob off from the cs guy
Anyway just dropped watchdog a line so hopefully they might take an interest

As you say this meeting could be a load of bullS!*t just to keep us happy and keep us from phoning them but hopefully the meeting is happening as it will just infuriate customers which will generate more complaints.

Yhing that does my head in is that I am the one that phones and emails Dell and they have not made any effort to contact me or when you email them the majority of the time you just get an automated responce which is useless

We all need to stand strong and make sure we don't back down

If they try and offer me 10% off the 32" I will tell them where they can stick it as I feel it is an insult

Let the consumer battle commence and hope we all get something worth all the hassle and effort for :money:

I agree, if that is the case it looks like they are trying to pass us off with a discount offer which although it is a step in the right direction, I think we all have more rights than that and could push it further.
  • A strange finding: when I checked the price of the Dell 26'' TV on Ebuyer yesterday, I saw 73 in stock. Just now I checked it again, out of stock...
