I have worked in retail all of my life and one of the first rules is you are there to help the customer. I have always worked with the logic that if you see a customer coming towards you then you try to move out of their way. Or you let a customer go through a door first etc etc. Its just polite.
Local Tescos, ha yeah right this happens. I know online shopping is a good idea and all but the shoppers within the store annoy me like crazy. There are so many of them and they dont move if you ask them to (even 'excuse me please'), they leave their trolleys in the middle of ailses. If you ask them were somthing is they look at you like a peice of dirt then go 'over there somewhere...'. And the amount of times theyve cut in front of me, or bashed into my trolly (no apology). And the worse was when they bashed into the back of my mum (who has terrible spinal injuries) and she was pushed over onto the floor. The woman who did it went 'oh sorry' and legged it! No one stopped to help and my mum struggled like crazy to get up (with me trying to help). When we complained about the member of staff the customer services didnt believe us at first, but then said theyd look into it.

Are Waitrose customers more polite than Tesco customers for example?
I guess you are suggesting the difference in social class/area here, and just to give one example - yesterday a chavvy looking young woman accidentally bumped into me in a fairly down-market Tesco. I thought she would probably chin me for just being there, but she couldn't apologise enough. Yet, a few days ago in Sainsbury, I pulled my trolley back to let a well-heeled looking family pass first, and was totally ignored.
I've said before that the difference in staff attitude between my Tesco and Sainsbury is patent, the former having no concept of customer service, regardless of customer attitude.
Funnily enough, if I've ever been at the cs desk in Sainsbury - everyone is pleasant - both sides of the desk - whereas in Tesco both parties seem quite argumentative.0 -
We now do all our shopping in Waitrose.May cost a little more, but the staff (or partners) are great.Must be something to do with them sharing the profits.;)
On a related topic, I once went into Halfords for a part for my car.I had just selected it from the shelf when a middle-aged female shop assistant came over and asked if I needed help.I explained what I was buying, and she pointed out that on the car I had there were two different and not inter-changeable parts.Asked me the month my car was registered in, and got down the right item.
Had I done the male thing and insisted I new more about cars than her, I would have had to come pack and exchange the wrong item.
This really impressed me.I mean, a fifty year old woman knowing a lot about cars - what is the world coming to.:D0 -
I too have been a lot happier since I stopped shopping at Tesco.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

This is the funny thing. When you've seen it from both sides you'll find public rudeness far more common than staff rudeness.
I've also found that people with opinions like the op can infact be some of the worse. Their problems are brought upon themselves by lack of manners. I'm not saying thats the case here, but when you read things in this part of the forum you can blatantly see what really happened or how the op's have no self awareness.0 -

How dare these people earning minimum wage, working 7 days a week, now 24 hours a day, not have the decency to bow to your every whim?!?
try working in a shop for a few weeks, im sure your outlook would soon change!
Its not about them bowing to the customers every whim, its about having respect for your fellow human beings.0 -
Staff in the Tesco close to me are rude and chavvy.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I do, I always treat other people the way I wish to be treated, however I get the same store workers as the OP.
The staff are paid to be there, customers are paying to be there, surely that should make a difference to their attitude?0
