I also applied for a card which supposedly offered 2 % cashback for first three months (amex blue)

It took almost a month to come through and for me to be accepted but no mention whatsoever of the 2% deal so consequently I won't be using it.

Looks ok to me. Note that like Conran it is ran by MBNA - if you're like me and have an MBNA-related card stoozed out, then they won't give you another. Not me anyway - I've tried!

I wouldn't be so hasty. Why don't you give them a call and ask them about it. Check that the 2% is offer is on the account. Why bother to apply and lose the oppurtunity??
  • I don't know if this relates to you supermum, but I have just applied for a new CitiBank Platinum card and just this week got it through the post. I applied for it as Martin's article said you got 1% CB. However, none of the welcome pack mentions CB and neither does the web site. It definitely did when I signed up (about 3 weeks ago).

So the question is, do you still get your 1% CB with the CitiBank Platiunum?

I would recommend avoiding the Citibank card.

I applied for this back in April.

Called them in May to find out what was going on since no card received - said it would be with me in 2 days time.

Called them again in June again chasing - said still doing credit check.

Called again in July - said didn't receive credit agreement form - (they told me in May they had it).

So all in all, they are a shambles. I gave up and cancelled my application.
    Waddle you do eh?
  • Just noticed the comment that Mint are withdrawing cashback instantly-well next month anyway. They will be crediting in August, which at least means we can spend it and cancel our cards in the same month. Not impressed with their minimal warning,I suppose that sums up RBS of late though-but thats a story for another board.

Both my son & I applied and received the Citibank Platinum Card, mine came through fairly quickly, my son's took about 2 weeks, but no problems whatsoever and the cash back is mounting up! Don't see how they can suddenly withdraw it as you have to let the credits mount up for a year before you can get them

  • Just had my latest bill from Capital One and they've charged me £19.09 interest because I didn't pay off 47p of the bill. They refuse to see this as unreasonable.

They say they charge interest on the full original amount on the bill if you don't pay it all off, not just the amount you leave on there. On the back of the bill it says if you fail to pay off all the bill you'll be charged interest on the outstanding balance, which means the 47p to me NOT the original full amount. Can they really do this?
    Some advice please!

Yes, they can do this, and yes, it's reasonable.

You are liable to pay interest at the declared interest rate - that's the agreement. And then, as a concession, no interest is charged if you clear the balance IN FULL by the due date.

You didn't clear it in full, so you don't qualify for the concession. Pay by DD if you want to avoid mistakes like this.
  • Jury still out on Citibank really. When I got it, for the record, there was no mention of the 1 per cent cashback in the main leaflet, but a flyer had been inserted saying I would get one per cent cashback. To get it, I applied through the special site originally posted here, but which I think has now been withdrawn. They always seemed a bit half-hearted about giving the cashback!

I believe I am still clocking up the cashback, but as the internet site has crashed and you can't check in this way day-to-day, I am having to wait for the monthly statements. There is a phone service, but it's slow with lots of choices to make. And I am slightly put off by the well-meaning but not well-informed call-centres. Also, I have read press reports, which may or may not be accurate, that there has been some sort of security scare with confidential details of some of the cards being misappropriated in Bombay. Can anyone confirm this?

Meanwhile, I have to say amex blue is very good. You will certainly get your cashback. And they have started accepting it in Boots too (hooray!)

Mint have just announced on my last statement that they are going to join a growing list of credit card companies by withdrawing cashback. It's a pity because I was getting 1% cashback when spending in my favourite stores.
I am on the 0.75% Cashback Mint version which has the £10 annual fee (not if you ring them up and say you are closing your account though). I wonder how they will reconcile that.
