Firstly yes, I am probably a bit of an idiot, in light of my previous experiences with Barclaycard (fell victim to the well publicised "0% balance transfer if you put £50 on your card in the first month" scam), for not scouring the small small small print with a magnifying glass before signing up to a Barclaycard Platinum card at the end of 2003. The idea, given that I pay off my balance in full each month, was to take advantage of the 2% cashback until Dec 2004.
However, despite assurances from BC that the cashback monies would be winging their way to me at the start of the month I had still not received notification of such so called yesterday to verify. I am now told that, since I paid off my balance in full every month, and thus didn’t incur any interest charges, that I do not qualify for any cashback!
Admittedly, having last night re-read the card's Terms and Conditions, I did manage to find those few keys words, "providing that you are being charged interest", hidden away in a full page of size 4 type. This is doing little to suppress my frustration at again being duped by BC.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem or am I the only dummy out there?
Advice and/or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

There is almost no reason to have a barclaycard, not that I can think of0

I have had an Amex Platinum card for 13 months. I am currently in dispute because they have calculated my cashback on the revised rates applicable from 1 October 2004, even though I had a tidy amount of "eliglble" spend between February and October. They gave 500 points (£5) as "compensation".They have also deducted my bonus points (doubling the spend in the first 3 months) from my eligible spend taking me slightly below the £7501 threshold for 2%.My statements showed it all as "eligible spend" How can they do this?0

l have applied for a citicard cashback card after martin's recommendation on moneysupermarket.i did eventually get accepted and am awaiting receipt of the card.they have sent the pin but also some credit card cheques.am i right in assuming i can use these to pay my monthly morgan stanley platinum cashback card bill so i get effectively double cashback?
(be gentle peeps, this is my first ever post!)0 -
The answer is "it depends", you'll need to read the card terms and conditions as well as any special T&C that come with the cheques.
I think it unlikely that they will be suitable for what you want. They may charge immediate interest, they may incur fees, they may not allow you to pay other CC bills, they may not qualify for cashback. You need to check.0 -
Hi, and welcome to the MSE forums.
I have the Citi Credit Card Cheque book too. In the Important Information section it says:Your credit card cheques are treated as a cash advance, as detailed in the terms and conditions of your account, except that no service fee will be charged.
butInterest will be charged at your standard cash rate on all credit card cheques from the date Citi Card debits them to your account.
So my conclusion is don't use them if you want to save money!
The Moneysupermarket offer page (still active today) - https://www.citicards.co.uk/exec/citiplatinumd/engine.exe?offer=PPD&merchant=ms has links to the T & Cs and the cashback T & Cs.0 -
Received my Citi Platinum Visa card today and can confirm that it is 1% cash back. The card came with a separate leaflet with additional T & C for the cash back scheme.0

Chippy,
You've confused me now! - I got my Citi Platinum card today too, but I can't find anything about cashback on the T&C's or the leaflets that were enclosed with the card - where exactly did you find the info?
I checked with Customer Services after activating my card and they said I was on the cashback scheme. In fact they said that all Citi Platinum cards have cashback, which I don't believe at all - I haven't seen any mention of cashback on the platinum card except when using the special link that Martin kindly provided.
Notes for anyone else who's applied: it took four weeks (from applying on the net) for my card to arrive, and the PIN and credit card cheques both arrived before the card did.

Thanks Chippy - they didn't send that leaflet to me, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what my first statement says, and complain if there's no sign of any cashback!0
