Citi cards took my application for the platinum cashback card, and two weeks later I received a letter saying my application for the "classic card" had been approved.
I had not applied for the Classic card and surprise surprise it is not a cashback card and Citi Cards very sneakily hoped I would sign up for a lesser card without noticing.

Like scousebj, I applied for a Citibank Platinum Visa card (1% cashback) on 29/3/05 on the strength of Martin's Best cashback article. Received the agreement forms today and there's no sign of the cashback. Checked Martin's article again and can find no mention of the Citibank card (I remember it being mentioned in the same paragraph as the Conran card and was via a moneysupermarket link, not direct from Citibank). Have Citibank dropped the offer and has the article been quietly edited?
Found the link - https://www.citicards.co.uk/exec/citiplatinumd/engine.exe?offer=PPD&merchant=ms0 -
Hi Chippy,
Unfortunately, Moneysupermarket withdrew the citibank link on Friday afternoon. The offer wasnt available directly from Citibank themselves, so we had to change the article so that it made sense over the weekend. Sorry for any confusion.

I was just looking at the Moneysupermarket site this evening, and the link to the Citbank Platinum 1% cashback card was there - the link points to this page;

Get in there quick before it goes again!

I applied for this card when Martin's first email came out. Since then I have heard nothing so I had to email them then phone them - *funnily enough* they seem to have 'lost' my application - or at least have no record of it. Hmmmmm. Luckily I navigated back to the application page through my browser's history and reapplied! Fingers crossed (but I'm not holding my breath). Does anyone have news of a successful application?0

I applied a few days after having received this newsletter (followed the link, submitted my application online). A couple of days later, I received the application terms and condition to sign, but this document was referring to the Classic card and not the platinum. Furthermore, there was no mention of cashback conditions on it.
Intrigued, my husband called them to have more info about the card we applied for, and the lady on the phone said apparently they didn't do that card anymore for quite some time.
Who's right then?0 -
I applied for the citibank carde, and was turned down, despite earning plenty and not being in dept.
I thought a quick check on my credit score might be in order to check that there wasn't anything nasty there. It turns out I have red marks for not having any recent credit searches, and not using enough of my currently available credit. It looks like they are only issuing to people who may not pay off the card in full, eg people who they can make a buck or two out of.0 -
I applied for the Citi Platinum cash back card through money supermarket a couple of weeks back as well. Was accepted an received T & Cs for the platinum card but no mention of cashback in them. Phoned Citibank who asked if I clicked through a link or direct through the Citi website. I said through a link and they said that when I get the card it will be a cashback one....
We'll see when I ge tthe card then.....0 -
Thanks for link, moneyman Steve. Tried (for third time) using this link and, as before, when I got to Financial Information one, asking for bank details, the link would not go through. I called up (again) and this time got a much more helpful bloke than before - he said to leave all the bank details blank and the application would go through. I said would it be a 1 per cent cash back card (made wary by the above). He said yes, it would. I got through and a message flashed up saying I was accepted. We shall see whether the real McCoy 1 per cent cashback card turns up, or whether it's a dud. Will keep you posted!0

Glad you made some progress, Supermum! I've had my PIN number through, and I know they're giving me a £4500 limit, but no card yet!
