Thanks to Hillfly for the freephone number and the script.

Mrs Ted has just phoned them up now (as it's in her name) and was offered our package for half price for 5 months (£18 from £36) but we still have to pay for the multi-room at £10. So we're now paying £28 instead of £46 for the next 5 months - should come in handy with crimbo just around the corner. :j

Could may be have pressed for a better deal as this was offered straight away but we're noobies to this money saving mullarky - but hey, it's a start :D

    Regards Ted
  • Just come back from a break at my Mum's place, who has Sky+, and loved it.

I looked on the web, and called the upgrade line, and was quoted £159 kit and installation.

I called them on 08702 40 40 40, saying I had been looking around, and found the freeview boxes with integrated Hard disk recorders, and wanted to cancel.

Was transferred to the cancellation department, who first offered to halve the cost of my present 6mix to £9 a month for six months, but first mentioning about Sky+, which I questioned him about.

Am now getting Sky+ installed, Free kit, free installation, on Monday - still have to pay £10 a month as I am not a premium subscriber, but seeing as I have just saved £159, that works out at 16 months free to me (as I am getting a product I wanted, £159 than if I went straight for it).

Well worth a try - you can back out of cancelling too!!

    Best of luck!!!
  • This is a great thread!!!!

Just phoned Sky using the freephone number, am currently on full package. Spoke to customer services and told them I was thinking of cancelling as I needed to cut costs etc, he transferred me through to the cancellations dept where I spoke to a lovely lady who offered me 6 months 1/2 price straight away. She also said if I still found I couldn't manage full price after the 6 months were up to call again - oh and I'm not tied in to any contract! Woohoo - thanks to everyone on here.

Apologies if someone already posted this. Having had no end of fun with BT, we decided that we'd switch to NTL. Went through Quidco, who offer £27.50 cashback, but when we got to the page to enter our address, it said we already had NTL. Turns out they're not exactly quick to clear any previous account holders, and the woman who lived here before us had been an NTL customer. A nice man on the NTL phone helpline offered me a £30 discount by means of apology. Not a great amount, but it beats the Quidco cashback and pays for my first month. After that, I can start using all the discount methods mentioned on this thread ;)

  • I decided to call Telewest to see if there was anyway I could get my exsisting package any cheaper. I currently have telephone line rental, broadband internet and the Essential TV package. I've been with them for almost 2 years so I had finished my initial contract with them a long time ago. The girl I talked to was very rude and actually hung up on me! Then when I called back to complain, they wouldn't let me talk to a supervisor about it. I wrote a letter to them and received an answer back this morning apologising for the treatment I recieved. They also said that they had looked at the services I receive and have adjusted the price I pay. It was £40.49 a month but is now £35! Not a huge saving I know but I don't think I could get all 3 any cheaper anywhere else. So I guess it does pay to complain and I would never have thought of looking into it in the first place if it wasn't for this site.
So, a great big thank you to all the people who post on this site. I learn from your experiences!:T :T :T

    Yeah... I tried that

Just finished my introductory 3 months @ £15
Phoned up & said we couldn't afford £42.50 a month, could we just have the basic package..

" Yes sir, of course.. if the card is in the sky+ box we'll send the signal now, it'll take between 2 - 45 mins, is that ok ?? "

I was at work & DW (she doesn't know I'm doing this) is sat at home with the kids watching TV, wouldn't make for a pleasant home coming would it !!!

My reply was... leave it until I get home & I'll phone back :o:o:o

I think it's best if you're outside of the intial 12 months contract first

I just reduced my SKY package from £21.50/month to £9/month for SIX months ... (then I'll go for a Sky FreeSat card for £20, which gives Freeview plus a few extra freebies, and uses the existing dish & digibox, which is mine-for-free after the initial promo-period)
