Hi,
My current 3 month 1/2 price deal for the full sky package ends mid September.
Called them today to "cancel" and was offered 12 months at 25% off, which I declined. I was then offered 6 months at 1/2 price which I accepted.
I used the 0800 587 5707 number and just held on until a sky advisor picked up & transfered me to the correct dep't.No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I phoned a few days ago and threanted to cancel my Sky. they asked a reason why I wanted to cancel, I said NTL are offering their top package for half price and the lady on the phone said we can offer you our top package (normally £43.50) for halp price for 6 months.
I was originally paying £21/mo for the six mixes pack and now have all the channels for just extra £0.75p.:TNobody is more persuasive than a good listener.0 -
I had recently come to the end of the 66p per month for sky sports world package (the offer was for 2 months). I rang to cancel (fully intending to cancel) and went ahead with cencellation mode. A few days before my 30 days notice was up I had a call asking if there was anything they could do to tempt me back as a customer. I asked what they had. I was offered 6 months at half price (so would have taken it down to £18 per month). I said that they'd have to do better than that. He then gave me sky sports world @ £5 per month for 4 months. I took that - hubby had been gutted at the prospect of missing out on the new footy season! Will see what they offer in 4 months time! No way will I ever pay full package price again!0

Hi nhp,
I also called up sky to cancel a few days ago as my 66p offer was coming to an end on 8 Sep but was told that I was in a 12 month contract and the minimum I would have to pay is £15 per month for the next 10 months !!! I could not believe this as the only reason I took up the offer (I have not been subscribing since my initial 12 months were up almost 2 years ago) was because my sis in laws kids were over from the States and we needed to get cartoons package and there was no commitment as far as I can remember on the snail mail flyer I recieved back in Apr/May.
As soon as I accepted the offer they sent me a standard letter with my account details as they had to set up a new account for me as my previous one was too old. The letter contained nothing about any tie-in/contract committing me to anything. Unfortunately I must have thrown the promotion flyer I got from them which I wanted to read each word again to double check if there was any reference to any committment although I'm 99% certain there was not otherwise there was no way I would have agreed.
I'm so annoyed but sure that I'm right and they're trying to con me that I cancelled my direct debit immediately. Would anybody who has taken up this offer or who knows what the small print says guide me as to exactly whats going on here.
I'm a little more encouraged after reading a few entries in this and other threads that there is no such obligation with this offer. If it does turn out that Sky are lying to me where do I stand legally to make a claim against them and/or report them to trading standards/watchdog as if they've tried this with me is it a sinister plot or just a major training issue.

Does anyone have any tips for getting Sky+ for free as a new user? I've been desperately wanting Sky+ for ages (I'm even considering paying the £99 + £60 installation, but it really sticks in my throat!) and haven't managed to sign up during any of the previous free box + installation offers. (I'm currently with NTL, but I want recording functionality, if I could get Telewest it wouldn't be a problem)
I've phoned Sky sales and said I want Sky+ free with free installation and they said they couldn't do that, or move on the price at all..... do I just need to bite the bullet and pay the £160, (or wait another however long!) or is there some magic incantation I can chant?Shuffle up and deal!0 -
Hi
i just phoned Sky earlier to tell them I could no longer afford the £43 per month we were paying, and could I give one months notice to cancel. Was transferred to a very helpful man called James, I told him the problem, he asked If otherwise I was happy with Sky, I said yes apart from the price, he immediately offered me the whole package (except movies) for £5 per month for the next 4 months!! As I have just paid for August, he recredited my account with £25 and I have nothing at all to pay for the next 4 months. He said to ring back end Nov and see what they can do then!
I am delighted, and will be putting away the £43 I would have spent for the next 4 months!
Just goes to show, if you dont ask............!0 -
Rang to "cancel" (was really after sky+ for free) and firstly got offered the box for £80 and politely refusing got offered it for free! So am a very happy bunny - thanks to all those on this site giving me the inspiration.0

Decided I'd had enough and phoned SKY to cancel in the hope of being offered a deal, but quite prepared to tell them to get lost anyway. My sub has gone up from £36 to £40.50 (12.5% increase) without any warning. Trouble is I have now been on the phone for 37 minutes waiting to get through! (ThankGod it's freephone). What is the best time to call as I've had it, listening to their stupic message!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

Hi Troublesome,
The op you spoke to on the phone has given you incorrect info, get back on the blower to them!
Last September Sky brought in a new computer system, but a lot of old inactive accounts were not added to the new system.
When you re-subscribed, they've added your details to the new system. At first glance, it will look to a callcentre op like you've just begun a new subscription and you're tied in for a minimum 12 months.
This is not the case and was never a term or condition of the offer, you can cancel at any time by giving 30 days notice.
If you get the same answer again, tell them to to check your details against their old DCMS system.
Some Sky ops are devious in trying to stop you cancelling, but in the main, as you suggest, it's down to poor training.
Hope this helps!!0
